  1. I am thrilled the Cubs have been playing great ball as of late, the last 20 or so games. They've won there last couple series verses good competation. I'd like to see then get to .500 by June!!!
  2. I have a very wide range of emotions about this: Happy that Santo was finally elected to the HoF. Sick and furious that he wasn't elected while alive! Happy that somewhere Joe Morgan is pissed that Santo got in. Hall Of Fame, I do not get the induction process. If it took Ron this long to get in then just close the doors and get ride of the Hall. A feel a universal wrong was righted today. I also feel that it came at a price and the bitter outweighs the sweet just now.
  3. Nope. He's absolutely right. Listen to your bitter cube made from Boston. I think GM's get more credit and take more blame then they really should get anyway. Theo is new blood to a lifeless orgainization and the GM position. I am excited but I have tempered expectations for the short term, greater for long term. Why do you feel this way? Considering they are the guy who puts a team together I can't agree with this. Aside from limitations placed upon them by owners and payroll I would think they have one of the biggest impacts on team performance. If that's your stance then the Cubs made the biggest mistake by hiring Theo since his team just had an epic collapse of all time. I prefer the body of work over time. I imagine so does everyone.

  5. My cube mate from Boston is rather bitter and doesn't give Theo any credit for the 2 World Series titles. Sour grapes?
  6. Pressure is on Theo now. Ricketts will have to eat some contracts to give Theo some flexibility. Quade will fall but who else?
  7. I agree, of Hendry did this then why not pick up Wells from Toronto? at least he's useful.
  8. Carlos Silva is the man mentioned BTW. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/cubs-mariners-talking-bradley-trade.html
  9. Cameron K's 3 K's for Harden 32 pitches through 2 innings
  10. Why not flip Griffy to the Cubs for Eyre? Platoon Griff with Edmonds or Pie later when the roasters expand. The WS get pan help with Eyre.
  11. Oh no, Scott's back! Ha ha! This thread did better then any I posted last year. I'm just glad the Cubs are doing things to win baseball games. Call it "geling" call it learning to play with each other, whatever they're winning and I am happy.
  12. Hay Hay! I must admit I thought this was a joke too. It's to early for this right now. I give the Cubs a couple of months to figure out how to win with each other. The Cubs thus far have been out of sync, good starting pitching, bad hitting; Good hitting crap pitching or bullpen. The last 5 or 6 games looked good and maybe they are growing together as a team. Last years posts were to cull the negativity surrounding every post. Yes I knew the slings, arrows and gnashing of teeth would happen, that was part of the fun. This year, different team and, I honestly believe, a much better result.
  13. AL East: 1. Blue Jays 2. Red Sox 3. Yankees 4. Devil Rays 5. Orioles AL Central: 1. White Sox 2. Twins 3. Tigers 4. Indians 5. Royals AL West 1. Angels 2. Rangers 3. A's 4. Mariners AL Wilcard: Red Sox NL East 1. Mets 2. Marlins 3. Phillies 4. Braves 5. Expos NL Central 1. Cubs 2. Brewers 3. Cardinals 4. Reds 5. Astros 6. Pirates NL West 1. Dodgers 2. Padres 3. Diamondbacks 4. Giants 5. Rockies NL WC: Brewers
  14. Bruce Miles is on scene. When he know's we'll know. It began 11 minutes ago.
  15. I see things differently. I see the Bears with nothing to lose playing loose while the Saints holding the hope of the world on their shoulders making mistakes and turning the ball over time and time again. The Bears will be given this game due to the Saints wilting under that pressure. Defense win championships. The Bears have a better defense. Bears win in a romp. 38-10. Need I say more?

  17. Trying to understand the purpose for this thread. Why would Hill feel any pressure? I would imagine that he would feel a ton more pressure if Lilly and Jason were not signed. Hill will have a nice spot on the pitching staff no doubt. Placing monikers such as Ace, #2 -#5 on pitchers before the season is a waste of time. That only comes into play in the playoffs when you can set a rotation to win a short series. During the season it's not that big of a factor. I like what the Cubs have and I hope that Prior comes back strong and regains his previous self. That would be a huge boost. With the run production this team will be very fun to watch next season.
  18. Well said. **golf clap**
  19. One thing I found unfair was a special on ESPN highlighting Latin American players and not once was Sammy Sosa mentioned. Not once! That was completely wrong!!
  20. Girardi is doing the best thing. He's getting the Marlins to pay him for the next 2 years to sit his butt in the booth. Good for you Joe. Make the Marlins pay up!! I hope he waits out the Yankees or the Cubs either way. Good for him!!
  21. In their day Trammel and Sandberg would have been the dream team middle infield. Trammel at SS pre-dated what the SS has now become. Trammel was a throw back to a older generation of SS men where today they look for power at SS. Tramm. was a RBI and OBP guy that got things going on the bases. He personfide the "small ball" game. He's very knowledgable about the game and in game situations. I am not sure he can communicate them very well, but as bench coach he might be given the time to really work with our players and work on that aspect. He's not a blow hard and he's perfect for behind the scenes. As an Aside: His double play teammate Lou Whitaker, The Tigers Players rep., lost a ton of creditability when he showed up during the Players strike to talk with the League arriving in a limo. Nothing says I need more money then showing up in a Limo. Needless to say Donald Feir told him not to show up again. He he.
  22. I wonder if national writes have a database of "catchy quotes" about the cubs that they whip out when they need a story on the cubs. No matter what the story is about, it always goes back to curses, billy-goats, and all that cr*p. I wish it would go away, I wish people would just let it go. I guess until they win it won't though. Sometimes I wonder even if we win it, they'll still say, "well its only 1 in a hundred years". I couldn't agree more. I am sick of that media driven nonsense.
  23. That's why I can stay somewhat optimistic. If you can win your division and get into the playoffs, anything can happen so you don't have to build the best team in baseball, just the best team in your division and hope somebody on your team gets hot at the right time. Lock the thread Backtobanks makes the post of the day.
