  1. The Brew crue begins a 4 game set vs. the Red Birds. I'm hoping that they could play for a spilt. This week is a good week which the Cubs can make up some games to narrow the gap. By playing the pesky Reds for 4 and then visting ST. Louis. I hoping that momentum is on ther Cubbie's side. The starting pitching has gained confidance from crappy hitting teams, which is great going in to the Reds and Cards series. This helps the over all mentality of the team. The offense is plating runs, which, suprise suprise, wins games. Incredible! It was a great move by Dusty to take Wood out of the 11-1 game. He has learned from the Prior game in the 2003 series vs. the Marlins. The pen showed rust. Dusty got them some innings and getting them working in games they couldn't blow. Good for him and the Cubs. The defense is still on again, off again. Lets hope it don't cost the Cubs game when the pressure really starts to build. Ya smell that! It's a penant race just at the beginning of heating up. The is a fact that pitching leads teams to the playoffs and the Cubs have pitching.
  2. After the play from the Yankees Center feilder last night C. Patterson will be in Pin's by Monday. His price and trade value increaed by every base Trot Nixon ran thus 4x. He He! see ya C Pat. Good Luck.
  3. I was wrong the other day when I implyed Suntimes Writer Carol Slezak for outing Steve Bartman the day after the game. I did the reseach and found this. Diehard Cubs fan meant no harm touching foul, supporters say Author: Annie Sweeney Frank Main Chris Fusco Robert C. Herguth Date: October 15, 2003 Publication: Chicago Sun-Times Page: 2 Word Count: 868 Excerpt: The man some fans blame for Tuesday night's Cubs loss because he reached out and might have kept left fielder Moises Alou from catching a foul ball is a diehard Cubs fan who works for a consulting firm in the north suburbs and coaches youth baseball. In a chant that could be heard on the national telecast of the game, fans all over Wrigley Field joined in cursing Steve Bartman after he got his hand on the foul ball off the bat of the Florida Marlins' Luis Castillo in the... I apologise to Carol Slezak and want ZiggyTaxi to stop his assult on Carol. I was incorrect.
  4. Of course, I'll be the first to say this will never happen, but it is an intriguing idea. Cuban wants his teams to win and he isn't afraid to spend money or shake things up. On the other hand, for those that value tradition, Cuban may not be your guy. He's innovative and is willing to try about anything. Carol Sleeeezak is one of the reporters that named Bartman. I don't trust one single work from her. I have no respeck at all for her or what she does.
  5. I hope he's also working on pitch selection. A short swing at eye-level fastballs and low and outside sinkers isn't going to make him better. His shorter swing may allow him to hit those pitches, but he won't hit them w/ much authority. I also got the feeling he wasn't working on pitch selection at this point. Hopefully, they will address that once his swing is corrected. I could be way off, but don't they go hand in hand. His swing is so long and not quick. Therefore, in order to hit a ball going 90+ MPH he needs to make a decision sooner on the pitch - which usually ends up in him swinging at poor selections. But if he had a shorter, quicker swing, he might more time to look at the pitch (although we are talking fractions of seconds here). I think that it would naturally help his pitch selection, but who am I. Certainly not a hitting coach... Yes, they go hand and hand. You get Cory looking to have a shorter bat stroke and not thinking about the pitch which might be a good thing. It's a perfect coaching ploy to get Cory believeing his stroke is to long and to shorten up. By default he will view the pitch selection better. The opposite way is to teach him to pick better pitches which would be very difficult. I like the mentallity of the approach to fix CP. It's so silly it might work.
  6. Bucks announcment of the line-ups was listless and drab. The long pause after mentioning Kenny Rogers was uncalled for. I tuned them out after that. I see McCarver in the same light as Joe Morgan. And Buck is worse then Skip Carry in my eyes.
  7. Jeff, Since your father, Ron Santo, has held the torch for the Cubs for decades and their sucess seems to be such a driving force in his life. How would you view a Cubs World Series win from the persective of a the son of Ron Santo? Would the excitement be tempered with a bit of sadness knowing that something that has been such a driving force in his life and held your father's passion for years has finally came to pass?
  8. Cory Patterson needed this demotion and it sounds like he's taking it and trying to make it a positive. Baseball is small adjustments, it is mental. You can have all the talent in the world but without being in the game mentally your done. Greg Maddux: Thinking man. Has limited physical ability, but out thinks the opposition and is a winner. Kerry Wood: Thrower, has the physical ability to be a power arm but needs to get in to the mental game of baseball if he wants a long career. Derrick Lee: New baseball thinker. Derrick is having a career year due to him finally figuring out the mental game of baseball and adjustments. he closed the hung hole in his swing from last year (up and in just above his hands BTW). The league has not been able to adjust to him yet, but they will. I see more BB for him. I hope he'll take the walks and Aramis R. will make them pay for it. I like Cory P. I hope he'll come back and help the Cubs to a playoff birth which is what we all want.
  9. I wonder about him too. As years pass I find it more and more difficult to differenciate between him and me. I am Steve Bartman! I say this because with not a doubt in my mind I would have done the same thing as him. I wouldn't have handled it as well as him. That I know for a fact. I e-mailed the reporters that named him the day after G6 and told them in very colorful language what a monumental mistake that had just made.
  10. TB_11 I cannot understand how this team just dies. It shows no life. I honestly haven't read or seen anything that would indicte a change in attitude. If I did I would tell you (see the May 16 posting). It all starts with starting pitching and our starts are not giving quality starts at all. Prior should have gone down to the minors and pitched but he refused and is getting eaten up! Our offense has not been seen. Our pen is exposed because our starters have been pitching BP. Our defense ins't helping. This team is failing ever aspect of baseball and that is the coaching period. I don't see a bright spot on this team. The only spark I saw was Neifi arguing a play that wasn't even close. But remember one thing. This team is not done ripping our hearts out. They will go on a run and everything will be rosey once more before the season is over I promise. I just don't see how they would be able to sustain a playoff run currently. They should feel no pressure right now at all. My advice. Get back to baseball basics with these guys and maybe we have a chance. If not then get Dusty out of there. The players are not responding to him at all.
  11. The 2005 Cubs team in my humble opinion needs to be blow up. Watching them cause me to have physical pain and much mental anguish. I don't expect T. Walker to be around to much longer. He'll be traded and Hairston will start at 2nd making room for one of the rookie outfielders. I expect Remlinger to be traded. Maybe Rusch back to Milwuakee. The Cubs will be sellers this year my diehard Cub fans. Unfortunately, with the current manager I feel we will not progress untill his removal. I hung with Dusty enough but his inability to see the obvious is a detriment to the team. This has effected my entire life. For example since I live in Florida and Hurricane Dennis is coming I couldn't care less. I'm actually hoping it hit me so I don't have to watch the Cubs blow another painful game and continue the free fall. The trading will begin soon. I'm sure other teams are extreamly happy to see the Cubs stumbling and falling on their faces.
  12. "Easily"? The 1951 Giants trailed the Dodgers by 13.5 games in August and came back to win. The '78 Yankees trailed the Red Sox by 14 games in July and came back to win. The "Miracle" Boston Braves of 1914 trailed by 15.5 games in July and came back to win. The '95 Mariners trailed the Angels by 13 games in August and came back to win. Off the top of my head, that's the complete list of teams that have ever come back from a deficit of thirteen games or more, which is what the Cubs are looking at after close of business on July 6. So the Cubs won't "easily" come back. They'd have to mount one of the great rallies in the history of the game. The Wild Card is doable. Not easy, since they trail by six games and have five teams ahead of them in the standings, but doable, especially if Wood can put it together in the second half. Not the division. So by your post it can be done and its due for it to be done again. WHY NOT THE CUBS!!!
  13. I was distracted by DANICA sorry . We score [runs].
  14. Oh yeah and another reason I started this post. Playing softball on a competative team we would be losing by over ten points with 2 innings left and I'll tell the team "Okay we got'um right where we want'um" and over 50% of the time we'd come back and win the game. Guys on my team told me after the season that when I said that it gave them hope that we could win, sometimes not really focusing in until I said it. Don't give up hope! A lot of season left, for me its the best part! I hate the first 81 games anyway!
  15. The best part about starting a possitive thread at such a time on the Cubs season is that everyone wants the Cubs to win. Not one person want the Cubs to lose, but listing the reasons why the Cubs lose does that help? We all can see it (unfortunately). I get heartburn watching the bottom ticker saying the Cubs lost again!! But that's was yesterday. Today is another day. This team has the ability to put together one heck of a hot streak inspit of Dusty Baker. The Onus is on the players. They need to step up, period! The current Cubs team can play winning baseball and beat anyone. They just have to go out there and do it. Putting all aspects of the game together like they did before.
  16. I don't swill the blue kool-aid. I can see the Cubs have problems but what team doesn't? Some teams sit back and blame loses on those problems other teams win inspit of them. The list of things you mentioned is what the 2005 Cubs have to overcome to be champions. If they don't then maybe 2006 Cubs will overcome there shortcomings. It's rarely the other team beating the Cubs, its the Cubs beating themselves. I believe they will make a great run. Looking at the players in place and the schedule. I like our chances. Let this Cubs team be the story of the year. Why not!
  17. I seriously doubt anyone thought that team had heart when they were slogging their way before turning it around in August. Well I sure hope they can pull off another second half like they did then. It seems to me that they have the pieces in place to just do exactly that! It's truely a wonder that this team is playing crappy vs. the other wildcard teams right now. That's why I titled the post as I have done. The league is giving up on this team. I say we're even more dangerous now. The Cubs could be on the verge of one of the greater comeback in baseball lore. Made sweater that its the Cards. I mean the '69 Mets came from now where and won it all! We have the players to get us their with a couple of minor moves. Why not the Cubs!! Hang on guys and gals. This Cubs team is ready for one heck of a run.
  18. So Priors back, Wood too and the Cubs go on a tear, right to the basement. He He. I thought the band wagon was a little less crowded lately. The Cubs will be wild card winners, their just going through an adjustment period since gaining back players from the DL. Their offense has gone silent at the wrong time, but looking at the players we have it goes to show you and should be expected. We have bench players playing everyday. Bench players are "bench players" because their inconsistant. Our pitching will come around when we get quality starts which we haven't had. With quality starts it rests the bullpen and allows the offense to not press at the plate. Houston has been doing it with pitching. The Cubs have that. They just need to start getting 'um done. One game at a time. Stick to the basics and get in to the all star break with some type of momentum. After all, they have nothing to lose now. Hang in there Diehards this is just a test. Good time are coming.
  19. is it cold in here or is it just the Cubs offense?
  20. Nats MO: Get the pitch count up and get into the bull pen. Stop D Lee. Game over.
  21. Good article. Wood and Prior "The Brittle Brothers" He He. One question: If it wasn't such a big deal why write about it? Hummmmm.
  22. Comeback Player: Nomar, He's healthy and finally in the right place at the right time! Sleeper: Scott Kazmir Tampa's #3 starter. One hell of a pick up! He already has a chance at AL ROY due to playing the media whores Red Sox and Yanks.
