  1. You have to question a 37 year old man (at the time) not admitting an erection problem becoming the pitch man for Viagra for gods sake. "I don't have erectile disfuction I just play one on TV".
  2. The game evolves and always will but very slowly. The one thing I hate and I mean HATE is the full discloser of the contracts signed by players. I don't want to know what Manny Ramirez is making or A-Rod or Jody Gerut for that matter. I just wanna see a good baseball game. That full discloser of the business side of baseball has ruined it a little for me. It makes you angry seeing a player loafing out their when you know how much they make. IT really pisses you off. I have no idea how much Sandberg's contract were year after year. Didn't care. I just wanted him to play baseball as best as he could. How many times have you read a teams dumping salary? or picking up a contract? These are players on my team you're talking about. A team I've been living and dying with for year and years. The owners don't respect the game either. IMO.
  3. I liked the speech because it reminded me of why I watched baseball in the first place. I had my favorites over the years but watching a team play baseball the right way and respect the game brought me back year after year. Players today that take on what Sandberg said are Maddux and Derek Lee. Both are not flashy attention whoring people. Their baseball players trying to do their job. Both respect the game. Players like Andrew Jones, Manny Rameriez don't repsct the game at all. I don't even think Bonds does. He acts bigger then the game. As for the Sosa conection to the Sandberg HOF speech it could be connected to McGuire, Bonds, Boone etc... not just Sosa. I thought Sosa played the game hard. I loved it when he went yard, I didn't like the ego or the fact he left on the last day or corked his bat. I thought he was bigger then that. Unfortunately all heros are human and ceratinly not perfect. Sandberg was, without a doubt, spot on correct on what he said in his speech. The only names he mentioned were positive. Lets remember he never even once mention Sosa. We all did.
  4. I was thinking we could ride Houston close to the lead and beat them both. Kind of sniper/Ninja attacked in the last week. Yeeeeehawww!
  5. I posted earlier in the week I was hoping the Cubs blew out a couple games to get a break, but I changed my mind. Nothing sharpens a team better then pressure packed games that you need to grind out a win. I mean look at what the playoff are in the first place. Pressure packed every game! No wonder the Wild card team has such sucess in the playoffs. Their already atuned to the "must win" environment. This week could have been a terrible losing streak for the Cubs. They won some games that could have gone either way. I like what I'm seeing and I believe this team is banding together and ready to do anything for each other for a win. That's chemistry of a winning team.
  6. Where is the Hank White Bandwagon? What a great at bat!!!!

  8. Wha Wha What!?!? My Parents live in Bradenton. Sharapova is there as well. Hrm... Yeah She's at the IMG training area. I've seen her at the beach in a 2 picee but with the wife who had no idea who it was.
  9. Pitch count for Vas is 27 for the first inning we need to continue. I like the approch so far. Sharapova is here in Bradenton so she is very close to me.
  10. Thanks Matt Good Question in the Jeff Santo Q & A.
  11. Thanks I'm always in the look out for a new priceless sig. This one was an intant classic in my mind. Along with the Danica one.
  12. July, as we all know, started with seven losses. It looked bleak at the time. The sweep of the Marlins helped just before the ASG. Since the Atlanta sweep the Cubs have won 4 series and tied another (Damn Reds). Cubs by Month April 12-11 May 14-13 (started month with a 6 game losing streak) June 14-13 July ??-?? (started Month with a 7 game losing streak) Every series from here on out is huge for the Cubs. They can't have a let down and play to the level of there competition which happened with the Giants and Reds series. The Cubs need a couple of big blowout wins to reenergize and relax a bit resting the pen. The addition of Wood to the pen will be huge. I look forward to see Wood coming into the game and slamming the door. The Cubs role players have been stepping up. Neifi and Burntiz have done a good job. Barrett also have contributed along with Murton, and Walker. The role players on the Cubs hold the key to the Cubs success. Teams around the league have a formula to beat the Cubs, which is take pitches early and drive the pitch count up. Get into the pen and take your chances there. The Cubs tighen that loop and close it. They will go on a run and compete for the wild card. Look for Woods and Williams to solidify the pen. Look for Kearns to contribute in left and look for a couple of big breaks to go the Cubs way.
  13. Nomar and Niefi will split time. Neifi deserves the playing time and Nomar needs to have a day off. I don't see a big deal. As long as the Cubs win Ronny Woo Woo can play short.
  14. Are you Crazy???     She's coming too...no way I'd try to pull that one off yet...he's only about 1 year old...he's done really well at the games we've been to so far down here at Busch, but there needs to be at least two of us to pass him back and forth...I'm guessing by the 4th inning he and my wife are walking the concourse while I'm watching the game. No I was thinking wow this guy is taking his kid to the game, stroller and all without the wife. I coould hear the brass balls clanging. When I was single I use to ask my friend who had kids if I could take them to the park...etc. The chicks love dad's doing daddy things. It makes'um goosey
  15. Dude are you going without your wife and just bringing the kid?
  16. This may in fact be a big week when we consider the matchups: Atlanta and Washington will go head to head--both are tied atop the East/Wild Card standings. Also interesting is the Astros and Phillies will go head to head. Both teams are ahead of the Cubs for the Wild Card so yet again, there may be ground to be made. Conversely, the Cubs trail the Mets and are tied with the Marlins. They play the Rockies and Pirates respectively therefore, the Cubs need to handle their own business with the Giants (and diamondbacks afterwards). This week to me will decide a lot of things for me. First, just coming off a well played series vs. the Cards (not full stregth). Will the Cubs have a let down with the Giants and AZ? The good Cubs team will take care of business and dispatch loses to both teams in both series. Second, will banking on players coming off the DL be enough for this team or will Hendry do anything worth wild?
  17. Excuse me 7 and 4, my mistake. I hate the fact the Pitching is still patchwork and non-reliable. How many of you thought of Farnsworth walking in the winning run last night when Dempster blew the save? I give the Cubs credit for the win. They kept there heads and got the win! I see this week as a soft sopt on the Cubs schedule and some ground catching should be going on.
  18. The Cubs are 7 and 4 since the all star game, but why am I not happy about this? Still get the feeling that Cubs can't get into the race. Every step forward they take a step back. The Cards series was great baseball for both teams. Friday was a pitching gem that could have gone either way. The Cubs blew to many chances and didn't capitalize. Satuday the Cubs beat the Cards, no doubt. Sunday the Cubs chipped away and almost let it go but played well enough to win. I'm still PO about the 2 Cinnci loses to be honest. I hope I begin feeling better about the team by the end of the week.
  19. I certainly didn't mean that D. Lee was falling in to a Sosa like personna. I was mearly noticing that when the Cubs lose I check to see what D. Lee did in the game and try to see a positive. The pattern is based on what Sosa did for the year post '98 and how the fans typically reacted to the Cubs and Sosa. At times it was "How did Sosa do... and oh yeah did the Cubs win?"
  20. Just as in years past Cubs fans like myself see that the Cubs lose and the very next question is "How did Sosa Do?" Now it's happening again with D Lee. The Cubs Loss last night was softened knowing that D Lee hit a hr. Does anyone else find this wrong? Even the fact that Wood left the game in the 3rd was secondary to D. Lee's batting.
  21. The reason it's not over is this. The Cards feasted in the first half of the season on weak teams. They didn't play anyone really. They haven't been challenged or gone through adversity like the Cubs have. The Cubs have a very favorable schedule the rest of the season and the Cards play more talented teams that will challenge them. They lost their outflielder, and Scott Rolen is forever not well. The pitching staff is also playing on borrowed time looking at the injury history of their starters. I'm optimistic. What a great way to go to the playoffs by catching the hated Cards!
  22. I swear, the Brewers play like a different team when they play the Cubs. (Although they have been better this year than in years past.) Yeah seem to get up to play the Cubs damn them. Hope the Reds don't feel that way.
  23. From my point of view. We gain on the Cards with the 2 loses and add more games over Milwaukee with there 2 loses. A sweep either way is fine but it probably isn't going to happen unless Milwaukee thinks their playing the Cubs.
  24. Ted Williams could have sat out the last day of the season the year he hit .400 ave. preserving he BA. He didn't sit it out. It would have been a bush league league moveif he did. He ended up hitting .406. I say let them play and see what happens. If Lee is meant to have the Triple Crown he's got to earn it all the way!
