Greetings from beautiful Mt. Airy, NC ! (with regards to Andy Griffith)

You've covered some mileage this week!

Since I left you in Monroe last Sunday..... I've been to Fort Worth, El Paso, Los Angeles, Allentown, PA, Albany, NY, and Lakeland, FL for a total of 6,183 miles. Not a bad week, eh?

I give you fair warning, tho.... picking up a load over in Orlando in the morning headed for Bogalusa. Forewarned is forearmed, no?

Greetings one an all from beautiful Lakeland, FL

So let me see if I get this straight.

Since your posts last weekend, you have posted from the following places:

Louisiana

Texas

California

Arizona

Virginia

Pennsylvania

North Carolina

Florida

If I may ask, how many hours/miles can you drive a day legally?

Edit to add: I wrote this before your previous post.

I'm subject to two concurrent constraints on my time. First, I can drive for a period up to 11 hours after which I must take 10 consecutive hours off. There fore, I guess you could say I can drive 14 hours a day, although it is not normally stated or measured in that way. Secondly, I cannot be on duty (includes driving and non-driving work time) for more than 60 hours in a 7 day period. My son, who is my co-driver at this time, is subject to the same constraints. Therefore, together, we can drive up to 120 hours in a 7 day period. So, while 6,183 miles may seem like a lot to you..... I'm still grumbling about having lost nearly a whole day last Tuesday in AZ, and most of Saturday in PA. We should have made 8,000 !!!

In order for the Cubs to make the wild card, Fred must travel for the rest of the season.

And the Reds and all the other teams ahead of the Cubs have to seriously implode.

Technically, if everyone else stayed playing at the same baseball they have for the season and the Cubs won at the same rate they did on the homestand, they would win the wildcard. Of course, just because something is possible doesn't mean it is going to happen-and winning almost 80 percent of your games over 50 games is incredibly hard for any team, and almost impossible for this team.

I was going to be forced to call you out for illegal driving, Fred. Having a little experince with the DOT regs, I was thinking 6,000 was just a bit over the top for a week. You average about 550-600 miles/day or so if my calculations are correct?

If I'm running alone, and I'm only averaging 550/day.... then I'm gonna have a stern conversation with a dispatcher.... 'cause that would mean I'm doing way more sitting than what is healthy !! But when you're running as a team, like we are right now, 1200/day is about all you can reasonably operate over time because of the constraints of the world as it is. i.e. not all shippers work around the clock; sometimes you have to wait for them to open, etc.

9.5 games out of wildcard

That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is.

Agreed. I find myself taking cursory glances at how Cincy is doing to see if the Cubs can draw closer. And that's just ridiculous considering how laughably bad the Cubs have been.

I do the same thing. As bad as we played the first half at least the 2nd half is enjoyable. It's nice having a half of season not worrying about Prior and Wood.

The status of the rest of the NL just pisses me off even more that Hendry and Baker did such a bad job. The division was there for the taking, and so was the entire league. MacPhail's absurd "contend within the division" mantra, and the quest for mediocrity that this entails could have actually done some good this season if they managed to do anything good in the offseason. As much work as the 2005 team needed to get better, it wouldn't have taken much to make this 2006 team at least .500 capable and possibly contending.

I was talking about that last night with a friend of mine. All we had to do is play .500 baseball to be in it. It's a shame a team with a 95 million dollar payroll couldn't even do that, with or without DLEE.

.500 baseball for the year would put the Cubs 1 game out of the wild card.

Looks like we are "contending within the division". .

Always playing JUST below what we need to do to get into the post season.

Good job MacPhail (F A I L). .
