87 wins..sorry

I'll take the under on that one..that would be 12 over .500, and there's only 1 team in the NL that is above that right now. I think the Central winner gets above that number, and 1 West team might get there-but I doubt the Reds go 10 games over .500 the last 6 weeks of the season, and I don't think more than 1 West team does either. I think it will be somewhere around 84 or 85, which isn't a huge difference but still a significant one.

9.5 games out of wildcard

That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is.

Agreed. I find myself taking cursory glances at how Cincy is doing to see if the Cubs can draw closer. And that's just ridiculous considering how laughably bad the Cubs have been.

I do the same thing. As bad as we played the first half at least the 2nd half is enjoyable. It's nice having a half of season not worrying about Prior and Wood.

The status of the rest of the NL just pisses me off even more that Hendry and Baker did such a bad job. The division was there for the taking, and so was the entire league. MacPhail's absurd "contend within the division" mantra, and the quest for mediocrity that this entails could have actually done some good this season if they managed to do anything good in the offseason. As much work as the 2005 team needed to get better, it wouldn't have taken much to make this 2006 team at least .500 capable and possibly contending.

I was talking about that last night with a friend of mine. All we had to do is play .500 baseball to be in it. It's a shame a team with a 95 million dollar payroll couldn't even do that, with or without DLEE.

.500 baseball for the year would put the Cubs 1 game out of the wild card.

And this is what pisses me off too everybody. Being 1 game out of the WC this time of year would be pretty exciting.....but no. Id rather some team run away with the WC than have a team a couple games over .500 lead the way. The NL was there for the taking!

Just get your ass in the playoffs and let things sort themselves out from there later.

Murton again tomorrow; Pagan Thursday

I just hope Murton is in there tomorrow, as he's been all over Bush the couple of times we've faced him.

(edit) good to know :-)

Bruce, is there any plan to play Pagan more in RF against some lefties here in the last two months of the year? I saw he got one or two starts there-I just hope we can see Pagan and Murton playing against most lefties.

It's too bad we don't have the offense to afford to keep Murton. If I were GM I'd try to trade JJ and get my power bat there, and keep Murton.

That's a good possibility, according to Dusty today.

Bruce - any chance Pagan gets some time in CF to give Pierre a day off here and there or is Dusty just using a Pagan/Murton platoon in LF?

EDIT: I guess you answered that question above. Nevermind.

Yes, it certainly is. Thanks Bruce for helping answer some of our nagging questions!
