I like it when Modzilla starts game threads

I like it when Derwood doesn't post in my game threads.

maybe if your avatar was that new UCLA recruit getting his skin pulled off....

btw, 4 pages in the Game Thread before the game has started? When did people start caring again?

It's going to be RICH to see Cardinals hitters trying to climb the HILL to get to Rich Hill's curveball.

Nonetheless....IT'S both Rich Hill and the Cubs offense, and Dusty Baker (you see how I said BOTH, but uncluded THREE different sources of crapitude...that's thew Dusty's Math Club) for why the reason why Rich Hill has been considered a AAAA player. No one person gets the blames....coughsbakercoughs.

And get his flyouts down a bit as those will translate to more HRs at AAA and the big leagues. But I'm confident he'll make the adjustments needed as he progresses.

Well there could be a reason that Baker and Rothschild have been a bit down on him. Ever wonder why they don't say a bad thing about Marshall? Maybe Hill isn't listening to coaching? It's rare that Baker bad mouths any player. So you just have to wonder.

Maybe it's because Rothschild doesn't know how to deal with Hill (but others in the organization do...i.e. Alan Dunn)?

Well I can't believe that when he comes up to the bigs he forgets how to pitch? Is it possible his stuff isn't any good against ML hitters? I guess we'll never know unless he gets the chance to take the bump for the rest of the year...

Scouts seem to think he has the stuff to be 3-4 starter in the big league. His stuff is fine, esp. if the change has progressed. He's been too dominant at AAA to be considered a AAAA-player - you're not going to post sub-2 ERAs, sub-1 WHIP and 6-1 K-BB ratios and be a AAAA player.

His control obviously hasn't been good in the bigs so far, and he's far too hitable (which in part relates to his control/how he locates his pitches).

He definitely needs to keep pitching without a short leash.

The question is-what is our goal for him the rest of the year? Let's say they get smart and pitch him every 5 days the rest of the season. What numbers does he need to get to in order for us to want to count on him as a starter or reliever next season? The thing I'm worried about is that he pitches, has around a 5 ERA the rest of the season, and then we have the same trouble next season. So for the rest of the season-I hope first that he can either perform really well, and then if he can't do that, at least do us the favor of completely flaming out. I just want it to be clear one way or the other, and then it is a big bonus if he gets it at the major league level.

As long as he makes progress I'll be happy.

The thing is, he's not going to go Liriano/Verlander the rest of the way. He's going to have his lumps in the process of becoming a middle-of-the-rotation starter. I'll be happy if he makes progress and improves the rest of the way; especially in cutting down on the walks, HRs and BAA.

It's probably duye to Rich Hill getting the start. I know I usually only post in the game threads when Prior starts, so I'd bet some people really want to see Hill. It'll peter out when he gives up 10 runs in the first inning.

that's the problem with how the cubs have handled this (and how they handled murton and cedeno last year). even if he's lights out for the rest of the year, i don't think that's enough to evaluate him. same goes if he's terrible. he should have been in the rotation a long time ago so they could get a better read on him.

This thread is already longer than the 7/8 Game Thread.

woohoo, it's the first game of the rest of the year! Dusty is not being fired this year, that means we have a stable clubhouse again! We're going to win the next 30 games and be in the playoff hunt!

This is just the vote of confidence this team needed!

Well that's up to Rich Hill. Rich Hill could've been pitching the whole year instead of Marshall if he showed anything in ST or the 4 starts he's had up here. You really can't blame anyone besides Rich Hill not stepping up.

Will the weather hold up for the game? I'm watching CNN right now and they just showed tornado warnings for Cook county and a pretty nice sized storm heading for Chicago.
