I seriously don't get Rich Hill. Is he a head case? How can someone be so great at one level and completely and utterly fall apart at the next? I mean, zero flashes of what got him here. None. I have never seen Hill do anything but throw balls or BP pitches.

pitching out with a guy having trouble throwing strikes...

if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs

Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone.

Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues.

So send him back to the big leagues to drop that sub-2 ERA, sub-1 WHIP, .171 BAA, and increase that 6/1 K/BB ratio? Or how about we let him try to improve his control at the big leagues. I mean, we could always send Rusch back out there.

This has nothing to do with Rusch. At what point do you conclude that he doesn't have the stomach for the Bigs? Probably not now, but when?

then you haven't watched all his outings.

I'm surprised Hill didn't give up more tonight. His fastball was fading a bit since that's about all he was able to throw and he basically had to ditch his curve.

Someone missed the first inning today. And a few of his starts last season.

Memo to Joe Morgan: you shouldn't be awarded first base if you don't try to get out of the way of the pitch.

Rule 6.08

(b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;v If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

Wuertz must love the chance to come in with the bases loaded and Pujols up to bat.

Funny, but didn't he do just that on April 9 when Marshall was pulled in his debut game vs. the Cardinals? I think he got the ground ball ... but it managed to bounce out to left field. (think that was Wuertz, but I could be wrong)

Nice job!

Again, can someone opine as to why this kid's stats in AAA are so impressive but he can't anyone out in the Bigs? I mean, I would not expect him to be nearly that good here, but at least he should be solid, no?

he only threw a couple decent curves...both to duncan, i think. i agree though, w/o that curve i would have guessed that he would have given up more.

Did Hill get any groundball outs?

I missed an inning or so.

I dont have a problem with having Hill staying in the rotation the rest of the year. Im not sure if he could throw strikes consistently to stay in the big leagues though.

Nice play by Walker to stay in there....

oh wait, he sucks.

He doesn't suck (I know that was sarcasm) but why the props for doing what most second basemen do? Theriot wouldn't have bailed out.

After way more than 50 big league innings I hope.
