Again, can someone opine as to why this kid's stats in AAA are so impressive but he can't anyone out in the Bigs? I mean, I would not expect him to be nearly that good here, but at least he should be solid, no?

I am wondering the same thing...he is like a best-ever AAA man but can't do squat here.

You would think with his AAA numbers he would be at least serviceable. He hasnt been yet.

Hill is an ENIGMA. Thats the view i am sharing.

Memo to Joe Morgan: you shouldn't be awarded first base if you don't try to get out of the way of the pitch.

Rule 6.08

(b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;v If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

Yep, that's what I thought. The ump should definitely have brought Eckstein back to the plate there.

The mound must be 45' 6" from the plate in AAA. No wait, the baseball is bigger in AAA, no wait he pitches right handed in AAA, no wait.....

pitching out with a guy having trouble throwing strikes...

if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs

Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone.

Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues.

His minor league stats are so impressive though that you know it is mental. I'm pretty sure the guy can throw strikes, he just needs the confidence that he can go out there and get the job done.

Just for kicks look up Scott Ruffcorn minor league stats...

just for kicks look up greg maddux's 86 and 87 stats.

I'm surprised Hill didn't give up more tonight. His fastball was fading a bit since that's about all he was able to throw and he basically had to ditch his curve.

Did Hill get any groundball outs?

I missed an inning or so.

Pujols and Eckstein in the first.

People keep saying that, but no one acknowledges that we are essentially comparing Hill to a once in a generation talent. Do you truly believe Hill will even approach Maddux? Isn't it more likely thaat he will be, at best, serviceable?

of course not.

but hill's future major league success is as tied to maddux's early success as it is to scott ruffcorn's minor league numbers.

There are also worse pitchers than Maddux who have had rough goes in their early MLB time. I think the point is not to say Hill will eventually repeat his AAA dominance in the show, but rather that we should wait before condemning him as a one trick pony.

The Weather Channel was not only ripping on the Cubs, but also said that they probably can't use the weather as an excuse for this season.

to me, the turning point in hill's night was the rolen ab. he had just come off a great 1st inning, and was ahead of rolen 1-2 (i believe). rolen fouled off a couple pitches (including barely nicking a decent curve) before walking. if he had gotten rolen out of the way, things may have been differnt.

The season is lost. Frankly, we should continue trotting this guy out every fifth day for the rest of the season no matter how bad he is. I don't care about his current effectiveness or whatever, but if he can't turn in a good start or two by the end of the season, then he can be shipped out.

This team gains NOTHING by starting Rusch or Phil Norton or any other overrated schmuck in his place.
