Like the title says I dont agree at all with Phil Rogers. However I do give him his props as he does have a course laid out and a willingness to state it.

I personally think that stability for stabilities sake at this point is more counter productive than doing something.

Jim Jones had a course laid out and stuck to it. How'd that work out?

It boggles my mind at how much people take for granted a good offensive catcher.... not even good... outstanding like barrett, who improves every year. Its not like he is mike piazza out there. trading barrett is as useful as I knitting. and i cant knit.

He doesn't even say why Baker would be a good person to manage other than stability. Stable crap is still crap, Phil.

There are so many other available managers he doesn't mention that it makes the article all but worthless...

Larry Dierker

Bob Brenly

Bobby Valentine (if you can take him away from Japan)

Those are just a few that weren't even mentioned in the article. I know more have been discussed here.

Just a dumb article.

At least he was moving in the right direction re Theriot. The rest was either obvious or not very intelligent.

Phil Rogers gets diarrhea every time he eats Cheetos, but he still eats them every day because he enjoys the stability of steady dependable diarrhea.

If the article wasnt dumb enough with the Dusty stuff, Then he brings in some bang up suggestions like keep Pierre trade Barrett. What a dumb article.

Did you also notice that Todd Walker was being scapegoated in this article. Is he this years Sammy. Dont look at the real problems Cub fans look at this shiny article we keep waving in your face. That is the problem not management. You are getting sleepy, sleepy. What is wrong with the Cubs this year is Todd Walker, Now buy a season ticket package for next year when we scapegoat Michaeal Barrett.

Get Prior healthy.

wow, why didn't i think of that?! this guy's really smart!

Not to mention:

Invest most of the remaining flexibility in a top-of-the-line starter—maybe not Barry Zito, but someone very solid—and then sign one or two bargain arms

Someone very solid! What a great idea! And a couple of bargain arms! No need for specifics!

Phil must have overdosed on his Flintstone vitamins. This team needs two major things to happen - Hendry to do a much better job with his personal decisions, and to bring in a manager who can actually keep the players awake during the year.

To me, Hendry is the one on the ropes here, because it is highly unlikely Baker is back. If Hendry screws up 100 million again, his ass will be out the door and it should be.

so catcher's defense is the problem with this team?

no, the problem with this team is whatever steve stone says it is. this week it's defense up the middle (how about an izturis-cedeno combination? that would really make it impossible for anyone to get a hit).

steve stone makes me want to puke. i used to think he was decent, now i realize he is just another antiquated analyst completely blind to the value of plate discipline.

WHICH IS OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM!

but stone would rather talk about clubhouse chemistry than walks or home runs.

I don't think Hendry could have written that article any better, himself. I believe Phil Rogers has a steak dinner coming, courtesy of the Cubs GM.

He says Dusty's a good choice if he's willing to shake up his coaching staff to find a better fit?

Um, this is Dusty... he doesn't know how to shake up anything. He'll use the same people until he cannot anymore... pitchers, veterans, coaches... they have to be removed from his sight before he'll stop relying on options that won't work.

He "keeps showing up for work." That's the basis for a new two year extension? I can't find the words for this piece of nonsense.

Now I will see if I can read past the first paragraph of the article.

Trade Michael Barrett and commit to Henry Blanco or another defensive-minded catcher. Barrett can hit, but not well enough to offset his subpar skills behind the plate.

and blanco can field well enough to offset his subpar skills as a hitter?

Right. If only we could get Barrett and his 900+OPS off this team we could get a dude who could throw out some runners... World Series here we come!

I was just about to post that it looks like Hendry's stooges got to Rogers when I read this.

Agree, agree, agree. This article reeks of Cub influence.

That's the first thing I thought about when I read the article, are they prepping the fans for their stategy?

Can't say it is impossible, but the more I thought, Rogers is actually stupid enouph to believe it.
