Angel Guzman is expected to take Carlos Marmol's spot in the rotation on Wednesday against Milwaukee.

good.

Excellent. Marmol could use some AAA time, and Guz has little left to prove down there. So good.

seems like marmol will stay with the team, but as a reliever.

i wouldn't say that's the case at all. he's only had 40-ish innings of fairly average pitching at AAA, and he's coming off years of injury. it wouldn't bother me at all to see him at AAA. however, he's much closer than marmol...that's why i like the move.

Dusty said that in a perfect world, Marmol would be their long reliever...

i agree...hill's getting screwed. but i'd still rather see guzman out there than marmol. if they could just dump maddux on someone or send marshall down to limit his innings, maybe then hill could crack the rotation.

I'm for starting either Guzman or Hill and sending Marmol back down (he could use more development since he's still fairly new to pitching). Either way, I think the Cubs need to commit to giving Guzman or Hill at least five starts regardless of performance so they can pitch without feeling like they're looking over their shoulders.

Did Rich Hill kills somebody's dog or something?

Dusty and Jim were none too pleased with his comments after the Barrett/AJ fiasco and they aren't above holding personal grudges at the expense of the team.

What did Hill say ? I totally missed that.

He tried to stick up for Barrett after the game and was blasted for it by Hendry and Baker (after Guillen made his comments, I believe).

Wow. Perhaps he's lucky he didn't draw a suspension himself ?

Hill has no chance of sniffing the rotation this year with Prior, Z, Maddux, a returning Wood/Miller, Marshall, Guzman, and Marmol all ahead of him on the depth charts.

Hill hasn't done squat every time he has had opportunities with the club. Last year he was bad, and this year he was bad. I believe Guz can be more sucessful than Hill because he has the better stuff. Hill's fastball isn't fooling anybody in the majors.

"I think it was pretty gutless over there on their part, him hitting Michael when he didn't have the ball," Hill said after the game. "That's not how you play the game."

Hill still has lessons to learn

It's not like Marmol needs to go to the minor leagues and work on anything. He'll be just fine pitching once every 2 weeks.

The Cubs seriously should trade Hill (though I am glad to see Guzman starting).

No, they should have TRADED Hill, back when everyone in baseball was under the impression he was the real deal. (Wasn't he the most sought after Cub prospect this offseason?) Now they'll be doing their usual move of selling low.

I'd rather see them give Hill one more shot to prove himself. (Though I have my doubts whether he'll ever be as good as Hendry seemed to think.)

have you seen hill's numbers over the past month or so? he's been one of the two or three best pitchers in all of minor league baseball this year, and he's doing it in a great hitter's league.

not every team in baseball is as short-sighted and impatient as you (or dusty baker), and they realize that a handful of bad big league outings doesn't mean the guy's career is over. hill still has a lot of trade value. and i wish they'd trade him.

Pardon a bit of hyperbole, but I think this is the most reactive management team in baseball history.
