Marmol!

A New Era

His fastball is pretty awesome, but man that curve is wicked. I love to see batters bailing out.

Speaking of which, who remembers a few years back when Wood buzzed Biggio and then the next pitch threw a perfect 12-6 curve for strike three that had biggio bailing out like a sissy. LOL, that was sooo funny.

. . . . no need to elaborate!!

You'd have to read the game thread to understand.

Funny thing is I posted this before he got out of the jam. Just because I knew he could do it! GO Marmol!

well hope he does good! Does he really have only 2 pitches? a mid to upper 90's fastball and a 12-6 curve of some sort? i still think he need one more pitch to make a good starter?! well who am i? just another fan?!?! :D

Actually most scouts in the minors dubbed that curve of his as more like a hard slider. I didn't see today's game and have never seen Carlos pitch, so I can't tell if it's a curve or not. He does have a changeup, which is a solid big league pitch, but it's not a plus pitch like his fastball and breaking pitch.

well, if he really does have a change up then, i've really not seen it yet? all ive seen is a blazing fastball, and a sharp biting curve... thats been clocked around 81-84 ???? I just think he should be given a chance.... u never know he might turn out to be a surprise like Marshall did?

It's only been a few innings, but Marmol has looked better than Marshall, Hill or Guzman. Considerably better.

Hill and Guzman, I agree. But his sample size isn't worth really comparing Marmol to Marshall. Marmol as of right now is a reliever, and Marshall is a starter.

With that said....if Marmol is a starter in future, I would like to see the Cubs bring him along like the Astros did with Oswalt, and keep him in the bullpen, till he if/is when he ready to start. If not...Marmol is looking like a dominate closer in training.

Marmol was a starter in the minors, no? I'd give him Glendon's slot in the rotation.

Next year we could have the Killer C's!!! . . . . . . . . . . (ok that was bad, I'm sorry). :P

We could go all-out and make a team of Carlos'. Carlos Lee in LF, Beltran in CF, Guillen as SS, Delgado at 1B, Zambrano and Silva in the rotation, Marmol, Martinez, and Villanueva in the bullpen, and Ruiz at C. Not quite a full team, but that is all the Carlos' listing by Yahoo.

From the 6/4 game thread:

So, who's ready for the inevitable onslaught of overreaction to Marmol's performance today?

It's either going to be:

"OMG HE SUCKS HE'S NOT READY TEH COBBS FARM SYSTEM IS TEH SUCK!"

Or:

"WOW I LOVE HIM MAKE HIM CLOSER FULL-TIME AND SEND HIM OUT THERE EVERY DAY!!!!1"

I wouldn't be shocked that he hasn't used his change yet (if that's the case), since he's only been relieving thus far and he's not as comfortable with it as his other two pitches. If he gets extended or starts, he's going to have to bring it out.

Right now, I think Marmol is one of the Cubs top 3 prospects throughout the system.

hahaha...funny because it's true.

Marmol's looked great, but it's only been four innings.

Len just read the injury report during the game right now, Woody is questionable for his start on Sunday. Marmol might get the start.

Good luck to the kid if he does start, cincy is not the best place to begin a career as a pitcher.

On a side note, aren't all of Woody's starts the rest of the year questionable?
