2 more infield singles for Patterson.

Looks like one was a line drive single to right.

Nope. One yesterday, one the day before.

i can't even figure out what your point is in this thread. you seem to be saying that bunting is the key to corey's success this year, even though it's been shown that he bunted successfully at the same rate in 2004 (when he wasn't very good).

Some people don't want to let facts get in the way for their hatred of Corey Patterson.

The point is that his numbers are poor when swinging at the ball.

Patterson's numbers when he is not attempting to bunt for a hit:

166 AB .253 BA .307 OBP .440 SLG

Those are a little lower now.

Why are you guys debating how good someone would be after taking away any element of their game? I'm confused.

If Patterson can bunt for a hit, more power to him. A hit is a hit. Do you take away Adam Dunn's HR's when discussing his AVG? If it weren't for all those home runs, his AVG would be REALLY bad.

Finally someone who accepts it for what it is. Now, I just proved my original point pages back that Elia is getting too much credit and Cubs coaching is getting too much blame because he hasn't made any big improvements as a hitter; he's just slightly improved to mediocrity and started going for bunts and infield hits more and possibly refined some of his running techniques or workouts to increase baserunning ability and speed.

That's not your point at all.

I'm not sure I agree with that. His K's are down and his walks are up. He has a higher OBP right now than he's ever had. I did notice that he is seeing less pitches per plate appearance, however. But, if he's first pitch bunting a lot, that might explain some of the variation.

I'm still convinced the Cubs coaches had a lot to do with his failures in Chicago.

I agree. He got progressively worse the longer he was around Baker & Co. and since he left he is getting progressively better at getting on base whether it's via walk, bunt, or not K'ing.

I believe that neither of those infield hits were bunts.

I assumed you were referring to his two hits yesterday, but I guess you chose to ignore his single to right.

When Zambrano isn't striking guys out he is really not all that good as a pitcher.

I showed the stats. Get out of denile.

You picked and chose numbers to represent your argument. That is not showing the stats.

What I did was equivalent to a prosecutor using the murder weapon, video tape of the crime and confession as evidence for a murder conviction.

What you did was the equivalent of anyone else saying Corey would be hitting 345 right now if he struck out less.

Umm. No. You didn't. I think what you did is provide circumstantial evidence that will find the defendant innocent, and the murderer will walk. I hope your happy. :P

I saw the O's on Friday. Patterson definately had a different look at the plate. The O's had him batting sixth and he, I don't know...seemed different.

When he stole a base (on a pitchout!), I knew Reyes was going to go first chance he got. The O's should have just threw pickoff after pickoff when Jose got on base.

I was watching the O's on TV a week or so ago, and came in midstream (so I couldn't quite get the entire conversation) but they were interviewing Terry Crowley who had said that they made a small adjustment and it has made huge strides for Corey at the plate. He chuckled when he said that he was surprised that no one had mentioned this adjustment to him previously (Cubs).

I know he's never going to be Rickey Henderson or anything, but he gives pretty good production for a seventh hitter. When its compared to either Pierre (as our cf) or whoever is batting seventh of a given day, its pretty sad.

2-4 tonight with a single to right and a 2-run HR off of Willis. He had a .518 OPS against lefties coming into the game.
