Has anyone else noticed that Cedeno is having a very Neifi Perez like season?

.279 BA .302 OBP .366 SLG

Sure it is early, but is this the best they can do at SS?

I referred to him as Neifi Cedeno a few days ago.

Cubs seem to be high on him. Probably like his Neifiesque tendencies. With the way Cedeno was hyped, I thought he'd have a little more plate discipline.

maybe you should have taken at least a passing glance at his minor league numbers instead of basing your expectations on whatever hype you heard.

Who was hyping Cedeno? He's never been able to take a walk.

many here wanting him starting. hence, i assumed he must take walks, if he's popular here.

So he is bascially Neifi with more errors?

He's a younger, cheaper, more likely to improve version of Neifi, if that's what you mean.

I don't mean to be so pessimistic about Cedeno, he may turn out to be a better player than Neifi. You bring up a good point that Cedeno is cheaper, and he is younger, but so far he has been part of the problem with the Cubs offense and has offered little to no offensive advantage over a guy that has taken the brunt of alot of criticism.

Neifi .195/.220/.241

Cedeno .279/.302/.366

Cedeno has been bad, but he's been better than the alternative.

Actually, he has a valid point. Cedeno is/was pretty highly regarded by many on the website and many on the website value OBP, walks, etc. Nothing wrong with making that assumption.

Neifi hasn't had any type of regular playing time. Hard to get into a rhythm when your sitting on the bench 3 - 5 days out of the week.

Then you haven't paid attention to his minor league or winter league numbers. Regardless, HE'S A ROOKIE (not technically, but practicaly). There is a great probability that he will get better next year and for many years to come. Cedeno will probably never have much power or take a lot of walks, but for a SS he probably will hit pretty well.

Your obsessive need to take the contrary side of every issue is tiresome.

that's ridiculous. it would take him two seconds to look up cedeno's minor league numbers. of course, he really didn't make that assumption. he just said that to take a veiled shot at the posters who like cedeno/obp.

i wasn't being defensive. i've never been huge on cedeno. i like him better than neifi, but that's not saying much.

sorry, i don't follow the minors closely.

i'd have never guessed.

ok just read your previous comment again. so i looked up cedeno's minor league number yet still made my comment about thinking he had better plate discipline. lol @ that bizarre accusation. i'm so evil!

I haven't read much of this thread yet but you cannot blame the Cubs season on Murton and Cedeno. This is their first full season and it takes time to get adjusted to the majors. I don't see really anyone other than Jacque Jones having a good May so we shouldn't be singling out the 2 youngest guys in our everyday lineup.

I can't imagine anyone thinking Murton and Cedeno would offensive stars as first year full time players. This year they were designed to be a complement to the offense and not main cogs in the offense. The loss of Lee, the disappointing showing by Pierre and the disappearance of Aram and Walker since Lee went down have magnified the fall off in production from Cedeno and Murton. The Cubs made a committment the these two and now isn't the time to kick them to the curb. See how it plays out for the year and then re-evaluate them. Problem is we have idiots doing the evaluating.

I think it would be fair to blame Pierre much more than Cedeno and Murton for not showing up.

Jeez, this guy has started every game, every single time in the leadoff spot. And his numbers are horrendous:

AVG OBP SLG OPS

.231 .268 .286 .554

.268 in the lead off spot? Dusty should be shot just for keeping that there to keep the team languishing.

Posted
Didn't Dusty move him to the 2 hole for a game or two?

My bad, he's still started every day, no lower than the 2 hole.

If you are gonna play the SOB, put him in the 8-hole where he belongs.
