I really don't understand JR's point at all. I loath the Cards. Does this make me worthy?

I loathe the Cardinals as well...could it be that we play them 3x as much as the Sox in a season and that their performance has a bearing on the fate of the Cubs?

Nah, couldn't be.

I WOULD NOT EXPECT THE CASUAL CUB FAN TO HARBOR AS MUCH HATRED AND RESENTMENT FOR ANY OF THE CUBS' RIVALS AS A DEVOTED, BORDERLINE MENTALLY ILL FAN SUCH AS MYSELF BURIES DEEP WITHIN HIS HEART.

I NEVER ONCE SAID THAT A LACK OF HATRED MADE ONE A LESS-DEDICATED FAN. IN REALITY, MY POINT IS THAT ONE CANNOT APPROACH SUCH BITTERNESS WITHOUT FIRST HAVING ACHIEVED A LEVEL OF DEEP DEDICATION TO THE CUBS. HOWEVER, NOT EVERY DEDICATED FAN CHOOSES TO GO DOWN THE PATH OF DARKNESS.

As long as you aren't saying the inverse is true, then fine.

- You can't hate the Sox as much as JR unless you are as deeply dedicated as him - OK

- You're not as deeply dedicated a Cubs fan as JR unless you share his level of hatred for the Sox - Not true

Wow. I'm confuse. But then again, I am pretty stupide.

No, I don't watch more Sox games. I don't need to be reminded about pissed off I've been since they won the WS. I have 450 MS students to do that on a daily basis, and don't need more salt in the wound.

If you were so dedicated, you'd live in Chicago.

Its a silly argument, but nothing more silly than what you're saying.

That makes absolutely no sense.

It is silly and stupid. No more so than what he said. Is JR a bigger fan than someone who plops down 10 grand a year for Cubs season tickets?

Any team with Ozzie Guillen, AJ Eyechart, and Mark Buehrle is not likable. In fact, they are quite hateable.

Buehrle isn't unlikable. He's one of the few I like on the Sox.

If you were to create a pitcher, Mark Buehrle would have most of the qualities desired: left-handed; smooth delivery; quick-worker; great control; doesn't walk batters; great pickoff move that gets outs and prevents many baserunners from even attempting to steal; great defense; a reliable horse who logs lots of innings; pitches efficiently, going deep into games while minimizing his pitch count; and even saves a game in the World Series on short rest.

Mark is also a loudmouthed ass. He is VERY worthy of vitriol.

Being a good player does not equate to being likeable.

Buerhle also has a penchant for saying ridiculously stupid things.

He's accused Maddux and the entire Texas Rangers franchise of cheating. He's a moron.

Usually when someone talks about someone being "Likeable" they talk about their actions off the field, or maybe actions unrelated to the game. (I.E. no one likes the stupid celebrations Neifi makes when he makes a catch or gets a hit, thus, unlikeable)

Your replies have little to do with the point of my posts.

Didn't you hate the Sox once?

Scratch everything i've said in this thread now.

I don't like those Sox boys.

Your claim is that you love the Cubs more because you put more time into them then a Bears fan who splits his "love." My question was if you considered yourself a bigger fan than someone who forks over 10 k for seats every year. They're showing their love with wads of cash, what are you showing for your acclaimed "love?"

And I hate the Sox probably nearly as much as you.

The only Sox that I can say I like is Jim Thome. He's a genuine class act and great player. But that's it. A lot of the rest are punks.

Jermaine Dye's a good guy. And Konerko seems alright.

I was talking in generalizations, but yeah. I've heard good things about those two as well.

I truly depise Sox fans, but you at least have to appreciate the way the Sox are playing. When I tune into their games, it's to watch Konerko and Thome (they're on my fantasy team) and to root for whoever they are playing. Oh, and the volume is turned off because I can't stand the windbag Hawk. I actually turned the volume up yesterday to hear if he'd actually say anything good about Pierre's great catch. All they could talk about was the liner Konerko hit...pathetic.

Pablo Ozuna pulled a Neifi tonight. He bunted in the bottom of the 10th with runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Needless to say, he laid it down perfectly and the Sox won.

The only difference between Ozuna and Neifi is the name on the front of his jersey. But for the New Cardinals, that's all you need.

No, my claim is that no one who is "300x" the Bears fan than he is a Cubs backer could be expected to wield the kind of hatred for the Sox that you or I have developed. His support is admittedly divided, and his hatred is admittedly divided.

I don't approach $10k within the timeframe of one year, but given the amount of money I spend on equipment, services, tickets and travel on a regular basis, I have no doubt that my outlay is an accurate indicator of a bona fide obsession with this team.

For the record, I'm on the waiting list for season tickets.

And I hate the Sox probably nearly as much as you.

Good.
