Sadly, I see a total blowout against the Cubs (something like 15-0). I'm serious, although I'd love some tasty crow to eat. Today's loss is probably the most devastating, the kind that frequently sends a team into a tailspin. The Cubs were already in the tailspin, and now are relying on a struggling rookie to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, it adds up to major ugliness as I see it.

It would be the miracle of miracles for them to actually win this game. I know that odds-wise the Cubs WILL eventually win another game...but after today, it pretty much feels like an impossible feat.

Maybe the sick bastards are merging their usual 3 or 4 losing streaks a year into what is essentially one MASSIVE streak of 25-30 games in a row, give or a take a fluke win every so often.

They should just raise the L flag right after the national anthem. Might as well save them the trouble.

Hell, I'd rather Dust forfeit rahter than contiune to play a lost cause.

Couldn't agree more. The one thing that we thought we could depend on failed today. I know it's foolish to think that Dempster would never blow a save, but when you have a solid closer it just catches you off guard.

Did Ryu get called up?
Yes. Guzman was sent back to Iowa. He would have gone back down by Thursday anyway since Wood returns then, but by sending him down now the Cubs get an extra bullpen arm for a few games.

the thing that sucks is that prior wood lee and miller are going to come back and make the team just good enough to not get dusty fired

I'll bring the crowbar for Woody, you cough in Prior's face.

Go CUBS !!!

Posted

Until about four years ago, I was a "senior" adviser to a men's service organization. The members were about the same age group as the Cubs players. We even had an old timer or two such as Maddx is.

Anyway, I believe I learned to "read" the group after 20 years experience. It never took me long to determine how well a planned activity was going to go for them. I don't know if it was their "body language", my psychic ability or what. But these insights were about 90% accurate.

As I look at the Cubs now, I get some bad feelings, just from watching them on the field. The only thing keeping them from total collapse,INMHO, would be internal finger pointing. Which of course we can't see, but for all we know this may have started.

I wish I felt better. Because Kerry Wood was regarding as a leader in the past, perhaps his return will help turn the situation around. I really. really hope so.

Regardless of their playing abilities, most of the Cubs players seem like really nice guys. I would ove to see them succeed.

If they lose today, and lose to the Nationals, then that's it for them. I think they'll implode. I hope that doesn't happen. I'll even say a prayer for them at Mass this morning. It couldn't hurt.

Oh yeah, I am going to watch, no matter what.
