I want Dusty to show some emotion during the game, get his ass out there and argue a call, get thrown out, and really just let loose. Maybe his players would see it and really rally and starting playing some damn baseball.

Remember the "double switch" that he botched a couple years ago when Ramon Martinez belted a double then was called out for batting out of order? Dusty got out of the straight jacket that day. I want to see botched double switch Dusty at some point soon.

This team needs an old-fashioned brawl - when do they face oswalt next? I say call up a scrub, send him up to the plate and charge the mound after the first pitch. He can just say oswalt was running his mouth and he had to defend his manhood.

I don't want to start a new thread for every Dusty quote, so I'll put this here...from Sportsline.com's article "Struggling Scrubs"...ugh....

He has tried being aggressive, but when the Cubs swiped five bases against San Diego last Saturday, they still mustered only one run. The Padres won 2-1.

"I believe in being aggressive, but it's not easy being aggressive when you're getting two-out singles," Baker says.

I don't even know what that means....aren't two-out hits a GOOD thing?

I read that to mean nobody was getting hits with less than 2 outs, making it more difficult for the ones who got the 2-out hit to score.

The 2 out, nobody on single. Mark Grace's bread n butter.

you can't sacrifice without two outs stupids! Let me state for the record that there is no better time to steal second than after a two out single.

I'm no Baker fan but C.B. Bucknor was the plate umpire that day. Knowing that Bucknor is one of the Poster Children for everything that is wrong about MLB umpires I'm quite certain Baker wasn't at fault that day. That's as mad as I've seen Baker since he's been here.

Screw that, bring in Novoa and have him dust somebody. If they're going to carry seven relievers might as well use one as a goon.

"I've never thrown a food spread," Baker said. "I tore up stuff when I was a player. I was called in one time for [acting angry]. They said it wasn't indicative of my personality when I was with the Dodgers, tearing up stuff. So they wanted me to seek some counseling.

"I remember [former Braves manager] Eddie Mathews turned over a food spread once. What good does that do? To get your blood pressure up, and you can die of a heart attack? After Eddie turned it over one time, it was hot dogs, and we thought it was ridiculous. We even went and washed the hot dogs and ate 'em."

technically, it's less healthy to bottle up rage and internalize it to the point where it can cause a heart-attack. people who show their frustration more openly are generally healthier people.

however, throwing a tantrum in the clubhouse will not get juan pierre to understand the importance of taking walks or trying to put the ball in play effectively.

That would give us FIRE! and INTENSITY!

Pierre would start hitting doubles off the right-center wall.

Neifi Perez would be jacking homeruns onto Waveland.

Aramis Ramirez would be running out groundballs.

Matt Murton would flip his bat and show up opposing pitchers after going deep.

Ronny Cedeno would squint a lot more.

A brawl would make them see the ball better, understand the value of a walk, and hit the ball further.

Egnius!

I was at that game. great game. won on back to back HRs by Sosa and Alou. I was in the bleachers. we had no idea what was going on and showered the outfield with cups the rest of the game.

but that is the only time I ever remember Dusty getting the boot as a Cubs manager. when he was sticking up for himself. never, not once, despite some pretty terrible calls during key moments of games the past couple of years, do I remember him getting booted for sticking up for one of his players. that's what I want to see.

I liked everything Dusty said in that piece.

I wish he were better at his job though.

I've said it before: I really like Dusty, I think he's affable and funny, and I would probably love to hang out with the guy.

But he is a terrible manager.

IIRC, Dusty admitted after the game it was his fault. He assumed the official scorer knew it was a double switch, but he never actually made the double switch.

20 hot dogs would equal roughly a nickel

Hot dogs have so much more worth than a simple monetary value.

I must be getting really really old and i always swore i would never do this

Back in the magical time of the late 60s and early 70s, hot dogs were considered a luxury item to many people. It is was a very different time and we didnt have a lot.

We didnt have computers or other high fangled technology devices, some of us didnt even have color tv sets.

You simply fought for what you could get. Not like now, when these young kids dont appreciate all that they have.

I can't wait to hear some Dusty quotes in ten years.

"When I was coaching the Cubs Perez saved us from hurting ourselves because that's the why we did things back then. It's like using a toaster, when you need your bread done you put it in."

Why do we need to call up another scrub?

I remember another famous quote by a former Cub manager.

"Nice guys finish last."

Isn't that the same guy that said, "this isn't a 6th place team" and proved it by finsihing 8th. :D

Close. Actually he said they weren't an 8th place team and proved it by finishing 10th (dead last).

Why? I've never understood why people do that. Did the umpire change his mind because of it? Any fan that throws any object on the field should be ejected from the stadium. Cups included.

It's good to know my TV remote that got smashed into a million pieces a month ago died in the name of good health!

Oh, I think it's healthy to vent some frustration for sure. As long as you aren't hurting anybody.

To be honest, this Cubs team has not drove me to such anger. The way we've played baseball, I can't get angry. I just think we have a mediocre team.

I'm not asking him to flip over spreads, but show some kind of enthusiasm...some kind of fire...argue some close calls, get kicked out of a game in a lopsided loss...do something to show your team you care, and you're not gonna take this kind of play sitting down.

Wouldn't it be more beneficial if he got himself kicked out of a close game?
