  1. Batting practice before a Cards/Cubs game in 1994. Sosa hit a ball that one-hopped the wall of the LF bleachers in old Busch Stadium straight into my glove. That is the only ball I have caught at a game, even if it was BP.
  2. No. Of course the same could be said for the premise of this thread. Seeing a 37 year old outfielder that is well past his prime defensively misplay a flyball does not mean that he was not a great defender for a number of years.
  3. He is that guy with one more no-hitter than Greg Maddux.
  4. Same to you. Have fun and drink a lot responsibly. Drink until Soriano looks like a good outfielder  Drink until Albert Pujols looks like he is 26 yrs old. No way. I am going to get wasted instead.

  6. The day is not over yet. (cornholio voice) Are you threatening me?
  7. I survived a year or so here without getting banned in possibly the greatest baseball season ever.
  8. Did you notice Carpenter being at or near the top of the leaderboard for winning %?
  9. I think that you are a little off base on your statement. There is/was a group of Cardinal fans that never liked or respected LaRussa, and probably still don't. I don't think that it is a very large percentage of the fans, but it happens to be a vocal group. I think the type of person who feels the need to always criticize a manager, even when he has had as much success as LaRussa, is the type of person that craves attention. They enjoy hearing themselves talk on the radio waves, or seeing a lot of responses on message boards to their negativity. I think it takes a lot of arrogance to constantly questions/criticize every move that is made by a manager when an individual fan has little idea what goes on inside a clubhouse and what kind of injuries/ailments individual players might be going through. I hope the good majority of Cardinal fans can and do apperciate what LaRussa has done in STL and am ecstatic that a WS victory has punctuated it. I am also glad that the LaRussa bashers are pretty much out of things to complain about. He led a team that was an underdog in each round of the playoffs and was playing without home field advantage in any round, and won a World Series title with what many considered inferior talent compared to the competition. I guess some will still complain about his reaction to the pine tar incident.
  10. Anthony Reyes on Sunday vs the Pirates.
  11. Do you think that Beltran and Wright should suffer any because they play for the same team. I think voters may take this into consideration as well. Also, it seemed like Wright carried the Mets team early in the year when the Mets were in a race, and that Beltran has had his best production numbers after the Mets had a comfortable 10+ game division lead.
  12. I actually laughed out loud when I got to this point. Why am I annoyed so much by the grammar in his first sentence of that paragraph?? oh, the irony Tell ya what, give me an editor like Simmons supposedly has and I can stop annoying you with grammar infractions. Even I could spot the issues with Simmons' sentence. Would that editor be looking for spelling mistakes, or only grammAr?
  13. For what it is worth, that was an opinion piece written by a NY writer that didn't speak to anyone related to the team. He had no basis for his comments about lowering payroll next year. It has gotten a rise out of a lot of Cardinal fans though.
  14. I think the fact that he wrote a book in order to profit from his admission and everything was announced on the day that the new HOF class was introduced may have had something to do with Rose not being welcomed with open arms.
