Didn't see this posted anywhere, but has anybody seen this? Scroll down to the Kruk article entitled "Down Times for Cubs". I knew he was a joke on Baseball Tonight, but this just cements it. Not only does he profess his love for Dusty Baker and how sorry he feels for him (what about us?), but then goes on to say we should trade Prior for Cano of the Yankees. Yeah, thats not one sided or anything. I can't believe ESPN keeps this guy on.... then again they don't really have any good baseball analysts outside of Neyer.

Name another team that could lose their best hitter (Derrek Lee) and two best pitchers (Mark Prior and Kerry Wood) and still be a contender.

The Yankees.

Ok, this mini-article just kept getting further and further out of control:

-Baker is good

-Wood is one of our two best pitchers

-Trade Prior immediately for Cano

-The Cubs don't have a second baseman (or rather, "desperately need" one)

I know that oftentimes, we (myself included) overreact to the stupidity of some of these commentators, but for once, I am simply speechless.

Who hires these guys? Can you imagine if Kruk ended up as a manager or GM? Good God!

As long as Hendry doesn't take Kruk's "advice" then the Cubs should be alright.

Wood is one of our 3 best pitchers, but he would be a #1 or #2 on all other teams if healthy. Prior for Cano is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. But he does make sense about what other team would be a contender if they lost those guys. Take Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina and ARod off the Yanks. I would think they would be pretty bad. Take Schilling, Beckett, and Manny of the Red Sox.... Pujos, Carpenter and Mulder, Cards would be in last place. Contreras, Buehrle and Thome, the Sox would have 0 wins.

So, Javier Vazquez and his 4-1, 2.88 ERA would have zero wins without Thome in the line up? The Sox have a .358 OBP as a team. They would be scoring runs with or without Thome in the line up. Freddy Garcia has 5 wins, and he hasn't been effective at all.

I agree that not having two of your best pitchers and your best offensive player weakens a team, but management has to take these things into consideration when putting together a team. Depth! It's important.

Well, their team OPS would drop over 50 points without Thome's ridiculous numbers (a replacement player probably wouldn't do much too make up for the drop in the team's average OPS), but they most likely wouldn't be this bad.

Of course, if you assume that Ramirez is going to have a similar year as last year, the luck would be on opposite ends of the spectrum. Ramirez hasn't been producing much at all while Crede seems to be hitting way over his head (.936 OPS compared to his .755 lifetime OPS). Something similar could be said for Konerko. Now if Thome were to be out while those two were slumping, then you'd see something similar.

I'm not sure anyone ever confused Kruk as a 'good baseball analyst'. He's on Baseball Tonight for one reason, personality. He's an entertaining guy that offers good side commentary. Its not surprising that he supports Baker, he's an old school player that stands by his teammates. Given that Baker is a 'players manager', Kruk would definitely support him.

Are you sure he's not on there because they can't figure out how to move him off the set?

If I want to see a Bufoon I'll watch Sean Hannity on Fox News.

I wish they would put people on who could analyze games and tell us things we don't know.

Instead the show is 18 minutes of garbage and 12 minutes of crappy Coors light comercials.

On a tangent. I wish Pete Coors would stop trying to be a polititian, at least his adds can be entertaining even if his beer is terrible.

Kruk was on with Salisbury yesterday on ESPN1000. Both of them excused Dusty for the team playing poor fundamental baseball. They both said it was the players fault. Kruk said "You shouldnt be in the major leagues if you dont know the fundamentals"

I agree with the statement. Heck we learned most of the basic ones that the Cubs mess up in little league. However since the Cubs obviously do not know the fundamentals very well is it ok for the manager to do nothing. What these 2 guys were saying is it is OK for Dusty to do nothing about it. The fact that they should know them by the time they get to the majors is moot, they dont or wont. It is up to the manager to correct the problem and since it has been ongoing since 2003 it is obvious that Dusty cant do it.

Anyway I just wanted to throw in a John Kruk rant. Sadly I still think he is smarter than Harold Reynolds

Hey! If it weren't for bad beer, what would you compare good beer to to come to the conclusion that it is good beer?

Oops, my bad! I could play this off like I meant to do it in sort of ironic "moran" type thing, but I'll just admit I'm not very good at spelling. But what do I care, I just had my last final and am graduating on Sunday!

Why aren't you out drinking? (Ignore this comment if you're graduating from high school.)

We desperately need a second baseman? If Lee wasn't injured, we'd have that second baseman, Todd Walker. I hate idiots.
