Nice Sig mojo.

Did you happen to see "Goodfellas" You might wanna check that out.

i thought he was quoting the movie also. hmmm

anyway. just give me someone who knows what the heck he is doing. i don't feel the need to be reactionary and get a yeller, but a manager, with a better hitting philosophy, and i wouldn't mind a new pitching coach also, one who understands that less pitches thrown = longer lasting success... some new players would be nice too, but hendry pretty much has them stuck there.

where are the supporters of that one ex-houston manager? dirker? what about him?

Larry Durker? I thought he had brain surgery or something.

The perfect world would be to fire Dusty and hire Steve Stone. That would be cool.

Stone would make a worse manager than he would make a GM, and he'd make an abysmal GM.

It doesn't take much skill to "predict" that a good slider low and away will get a lot of hitters to swing and miss.

Agree in part - Stone would not be a good manager, largely b/c his players would dislike him greatly. I do think he would be a good GM, but he has virtually foreclosed that possibility as well.

lou Piniella is terrible and would be somehow worse than dusty baker, here.

we don't need old-school managers that think blood and guts and the sacrifice bunt will win championships. we need a manager who will make nice with the press, not use the word "dude" or "man" so much (and definitely not swear at them), let the players do the playing and stand on the top dugout step with his chin up.

lou Piniella won't use the same language that dusty uses, but he won't win any more games, either.

The theory of Prior and Wood looks stronger now. What Nevin brought to light about some "other in house" crap that the press didn't have knowledge of I believe that Dusty was going no matter what and the players had a hand in it.

Point is Prior fell off the map and no one can print a straight answer about his condition.

Wood was missdiagnosed.

Both Prior and Wood were misshandled by Rothchild and Dusty.

Maddux had a hand in this too probably bringing to light what the current management was doing to their long term careers. So his advise might have been sit down and be hurt just enough to get the current managerment out the door.

Looks like it might just happen by next week.

Oh and if it does and Prior and Wood suddenly rise from the ashes, it only strengthens my theroy.

Just to be clear, are you claiming that Kerry Wood tanked on purpose in his walk year during what should be the peak of his career so Dusty would get fired?

That has to be one of the worst conspiracy theories I've ever heard.

That's doesn't make to much sense until you think that Hendry will work with Wood on a deal. Was Wood as hurt as we are led to think? Maybe. Did Dusty want Wood in the Pen? No! So Hendry and Wood talked and noted that it's the better plan to shut him down until next year and put him in the pen as the closer.

For Prior it was easier but he got more media crap for it.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it. With a healthy season this year, Wood would have been in a great position to cash in.

I don't think the Cubs faked his shoulder surgery in the offseason. If they shut him down, it was because he was legitimately hurt, not part of some big scheme to run Baker out of town.

If they wanted to fire Baker, they don't need for their pitchers to fake injuries. They can just point to the 2004 collapse at the end of the season or 2005 in general and hand him his walking papers.

Also, Prior is in his arbitration years, he's pissing away millions if he deliberately shuts down despite being able to throw. A decent 2006 could have earned him $8-10m next season.

I agree with you both, but they would be pitching for a famous pitching abuser and either making him look good or getting hurt.

This was the best answer, shut down and keep quite about it until Dusty is gone. Hendry is in on it and he hold the purse strings.

I don't see it as to far fected.

If Hendry was in on it, he would have fired him a long time ago.

This is the most ridiculous thing you've posted about the Cubs so far this year.

And that's saying something.

I see it as extremely far-fetched. There is no reason for Hendry to be a part of any such conspiracy. He could have fired Dusty at any time. He didn't need to get in cahoots with Wood and Prior to get rid of Dusty.

Furthermore, this injury-riddled season hurt the values of both Wood and Prior. Wood had a 14-million option for next season. Had he been effective and healthy, it might have been picked up. Now, he'll be lucky to get three million.

Prior hurt himself in arbitration and down the road.

Furthermore, both Wood and Prior are competitors. They aren't going to tank a season just to get rid of a manager.

The whole idea is beyond far-fetched...it's completely asinine. It's on the level of people of alien abductions...which I actually find more believable than this scenario.

Chances of this being true are less than zero percent. No way is it a conspiracy, because among other things it required rushing pitching prospects that probably would have been better served with more time in the minors (such as Marshall, Marmol, Guzman, etc.) and subjecting them to Dusty's abuse. It also put Hendry's own future in jeopardy. No, if Hendry wanted Dusty gone, as others have pointed out he just could have fired him and perhaps salvaged something from this season. Creative thinking, but in a completely different solar system from any reality.
