Can you believe that Sportscenter has been airing news stories about the upcoming Red Sox/Yankees series for several days now? Seriously, if they could be more blatently obvious about their East Coast bias, I'd like to know how. The fact is, 2003 was awesome, 2004 was even better, but honestly, the 230 million Americans living outside of the NYC and Boston metros could care less about this anymore.

I agree that it's ridiculous. The only rational reason I can come up with is that it's really the only meaningful rivalry in the AL. White Sox and Indians fans are apathetic. Other than that, there really isn't anything there. In the NL, Dodgers-Giants, Cubs-Cardinals and Braves-Mets are always strong.

Sad thing is...the were running promo about a "1 hour special" of the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry before it starts up again? When do the Cubs/Cards, Dodgers/Giants, White Sox/Indians, get their "1 hour specials?"

God, I hate ESPN and their blatantly bias towards the two spoil brats of teams of the Yanks/Red Sox.

To ESPN... the only city that exists is New York. Remember that.

The Yankees getting coverage doesn't bother me that much because they are actually good. But when basketball people, whether it's on ESPN or TNT, start talking about the Knicks on every single telecast, it ticks me off. The Knicks suck. They are horrible and a complete train wreck. There is no need to talk about them all the time.

Too high?

Too high, what does that even mean?

I can understand the NY Yankee thing. Hate them or love them, they represent the #1 city (in population) in the country. They are also the most successful organization of All Time in baseball, and have several teams worthy of All Time Greatest distinction.

They have also been a regular soap opera that has been running since the Mid 30s with such diverse plot lines as Lou Gehrig and his disease, the undoing of the Babe then his replacement Dimaggio, Joe McCarthy (god, it pains me to say that...no telling how many Championships he would have led us to, if they hadnt signed him away from us), Dimaggio and Monroe, Mantle and his home run chase, Yogi Berra being Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson and his untimely death, the whole Martin-Boss thing, Reggie Reggie, Goose, Steve Howe's reemergence, and the new Yanks led by Jeter.

Face it, the Yanks are the Yanks and people will always be interested in them. How many other teams have that kind of history in even sports?

But the Red Sox thing....that is a mystery to me. They are a bunch of bums and always will be. I guess it is the media hype of "Good" trying to overtake "Evil" with Yaz, Carbo, and Fisk (good guys) that went on in the 70s.

There is a Special 5 pm Sportscenter btw tomorrow highlighting the 100 years of matchups or some such nonsense for an hour before the game itself.

How does the east coast bias apply to the constant coverage of Barry Bonds and his race to not break a record that Ruth doesn't hold?

Lots of people in Boston are sick of it too. Media like to create news where there is none I guess.

For over a week now (in local media) Damon's return has been the only thing on the sports related news. (The was the Red Sox are playing at the moment, I guess they are searchign for a distraction.) The Sox/Yanks even pushed out coverage of the NFL draft. Turning to the national media, there is no escape. Thankfully, its only a 2 game series.

Even it out by having an equally overscrutinized and equally ludicrous bias in favor of a guy on the West Coast?

Yup I remember a time in the winter when the Knicks had a 5 game winning streak, and were playing one of the worst teams in the NBA (maybe it was charlotte or portland?) anyways, despite this matchup of teams with terrible records, guess who led off Sportscenter?

Maybe I've grown immune to the issue. Or maybe I've just come to grips with what a lost cause sportscenter and baseball tonight have become, so I ignore both. But I feel the hype this year is much less than in past years. There isn't much buzz here about this series other than a couple radio ads. The draft took up all the talk this weekend, and the Devils sweep of the Rangers took up much of the rest. The baseball buzz in this town has been mostly Mets related, and I don't feel there's much faith in the Yankees this season.

Anyway, if I didn't follow baseball so religiously, I feel like I wouldn't even know this series was starting this week.

I'm happy for all the hype. Selling my tickets for tonight's game and tomorrow's game financed a whole bunch of my Cubs tickets this year.

they're having a one hour special on espn news right now. the analysts can't believe all the hype surrounding mirabelli (apparently the yankees tried to get involved to prevent him from going to boston). they're saying things like 'isn't this going overboard even for these teams?' and 'he's just a backup catcher.'

this coming from a station presenting an overboard one hour tribute (complete with interviews w/ GMs, broadcasters, and former players and live footage of the players stretching) for just a may 1st game featuring two teams that play each other 20 times this year.

hard to imagine they can't see the irony.

No series has been more important on a regular bases than that series in the recent past so it doesnt' bother me much.

Actually, the regular season series hasn't been important at all, since both teams make the playoffs each year.

I can sorta understand why the Yankees want to get involved. I guess Mirabeli is pretty much the same as adding another starter for the Red Sox rotation with the way he handles Wakefield.
