  1. By chance I caught the end of "History of the Cubs" on HBO last night. From what I saw, it looked rather new (last year or so). Did anyone else see it? Is it new, or did I just catch a show that's been around for a while? Is it an HBO special? Can I get it on DVD? I'd like to see it again, but the "check other times for this show" on my cable system didn't work for some reason. If anyone has any info on it, can you please reply? Thanks.
  2. Lots of people in Boston are sick of it too. Media like to create news where there is none I guess. For over a week now (in local media) Damon's return has been the only thing on the sports related news. (The was the Red Sox are playing at the moment, I guess they are searchign for a distraction.) The Sox/Yanks even pushed out coverage of the NFL draft. Turning to the national media, there is no escape. Thankfully, its only a 2 game series.
  3. Ortiz is the DH though. If he had to play the field every day in the NL, that might take a toll on him by the end of the season. His numbers could drop off. I think Lee and Aramis could get there in the near future. It would help if their was a supporting cast of hitters in the lineup. Boston has a good hitting team. Pitching around Manny or Papi can result in getting hurt by others in the lineup.
  4. I never said they were credible, nor did I supply anything as a source. I simply posted what I remembered back when the "move Nomar to another position" suggestion came up when A-Rod talks were going on. Sox fans don't jump on every (or even most) players that leaves the team. There are many boards, call in shows etc. where fans LOVE ex-players, including Nomar. OK, Jay Payton, maybe not. Clemens, while he was a Yankee mostly (but they hate all Yankees). Nobody here I know liked not signing Todd Walker. I wish they kept Williamson. Cabrera, Martinez, Roberts etc. all still have big followings, and most people I know here wish they were still around. A few fans I talked to just yesterday wish the Cubs kept Remlingler though
  5. Nomar would have none of this back when the Red Sox were talking to A-Rod. The theory was to move Nomar to 2ed or 3rd to allow A-Rod to play short. Moving Nomar to the outfield wasn't mentioned back then, so I cannot comment on what the gossip, boards, radio etc. had to say about that. I doubt it would go over well with Nomar though. He doesn't seem to be that much of a team player. That may have been true in Boston (I don't really trust the media, and his teammates seemed to like him), but Nomar's in a different situation now. Unless he gets unbelievably hot in the next 2 months, he's not going to have a lot of teams looking to give him a big contract (or maybe even a small contract). He may be open to a move to 2B or the OF now. On the other hand, I'm not sure I don't want him at SS. Would have been nice to see Cedeno get a real chance to face ML pitching while Nomar was out so we'd know what he could do. But if we'd have done that, Neifi couldn't have "saved" the team's claim to 4th place in the NL Central. It wasn't just the media though. (I don't trust them either.) Call in talk shows, comments made by other players (especially after he left), boards like this etc. made similar comments. I do agree that his situation has changed. I think he will have to prove himself all over again in a way. He's injury prone and a risky investment (at any position), so no team is going to pony up like they would have had he been a free agent say, 3 or 4 years ago. As a Cub fan, I was thrilled when he went to Chicago. I do hope he stays here and can be healthy. Wrigley is a great ballpark for him. I just hope he can keep his ego out and help the team.

  7. If everyone comes back, and stays off the DL, then YES
  8. Firefox. IE doesn't run on BSD & Linux.
  9. It might make sense for Boston, but realistically they could throw Olerud or Youkalis at 1B for the rest of the season and be fine. Their REAL #1 need right now is pitching - definitely relief pitching and possibly starting pitching. If Boston trades any of their good prospects, it will be for pitching. Wagner comes up a lot, but I agree with Cubzfan64, the Red Sox have no interest in Thome. Besides Olerud/Youk, a lot of us here want Ortiz to play 1st every day, letting anyone else DH. I really wouldn't want to see the Cubs get Thome. I just don't see him fitting in.
  10. White Sox. I just like the sound of Chicago beats St. Louis
