Assuming the Cardinals don't mount an amazing comeback, the Cincinatti Reds will have the most wins in the majors after today. When will they realize that they can't pitch?

Don't the Reds do this every April? If they're still hanging around in June, then we'll talk.

Yep, seems as though they do this every year. Then they wake up and decide not to compete anymore, with the exception of the Cubs. They always play us tough!

BP's PECOTA felt the Reds were underrated:

NL Central W L RS RA BatDelta PitDelta
Cardinals 86 76 748 703 +9 +31
Cubs 85 77 725 690 -21 +60
Brewers 84 78 742 713 +2 +26
Astros 81 81 717 716 -17 +18
Pirates 79 83 731 755 -7 -11
Reds 78 84 746 778 +9 -34

In foraging for a surprise contender among the other three teams in the Central, the theory says that we ought to go with the Reds, since they have the best offense, and the volatility associated with pitching could work in their favor this time around. In practice, I have so little confidence in this organization’s ability to identify pitching talent I can’t fathom it, though at least Marge Schott isn’t around to see Bronson Arroyo’s dye job and demote him to Chattanooga. Nor do I see enough breakout potential in a Pittsburgh Pirate, now that we’re already giving them credit for Ryan Doumit. So the hopes of making this a four-team race are probably going to depend on the Astros and that bastardo magnífico, Roger Clemens.

Team ERA of 5.01 (with three shutouts), BAA of .282, given up 38 HR, allowing 13.8 base runners per 9 innings tells you all you need to know about where the Reds are going to end up.

They also have one hell of an offense. It will be even better when Jr. gets back. I wouldn't write them off just yet.

Agreed. Their pitching does not have to be top 5 in the NL for them to win. They could be at No. 10 and win with that offense.

But they won't.

The Reds will go away, it's not a question of if, but when.

The more losses they hand the Cards and Astros now, the better.

Man i hope you are right, but with half of their starters on the DL, they are doing fairly well at the moment.

Arroyo has been just lights out and even had Pujols mystified tonight. 5-0 with a 2.06 in that ball park is a pretty good start.

Apparently Bronson "Barry Bonds" Arroyo can pitch pretty successfully in the NL.

Their team is still too weak in the long haul, but they will be problems for a while.

Arroyo is a good pitcher, one of the very few they have. I wouldn't be surprised if the stick around until June or early July, but I'll bet they'll be in fourth or lower come late August.

May be if keep saying they really stink it will come true, but so far they look a lot better than we do.

I'm not comparing them to the Cubs. With that pitching staff (especially the pen), Cincinnati has perhaps the biggest "bottom falling out" potential of any team who's bottom hasn't already fallen out.

I know we keep saying their pitching stinks, but it hasn't happened yet. Does anyone have pitching stats for current Cubs and Reds?
