  1. Didn't look at the list, but I know I share with Jay Buhner, Jarrod Washburn, and Corey Patterson. Extra points go to Washburn, however, since we also share the same year. Non baseball ont his list: Fidel Castro Alfred Hitchcock Danny Bonaduce Corey Patterson doesn't look so bad anymore....
  2. Back when Lima was in Houston, he was in the midst of an absolutely horrible season and the Astros were having a picture with the players day that I took my nephew to. Most of the players were nice but not particularly enjoying themselves and just trying to get it over with. When Lima came around (this was right after Craig Biggio walked right past my nephew and several other kids while complaining that his knee hurt and for everyone to hurry up), my camera ran out of film. Instead of just walking past, Lima stopped, waited for me to change the film in my camera and talked to me and my nephew, joked around with him comparing their bleach jobs on their hair...he was just really nice and was having a blast. Biggio actually yelled at him to "skip the kid and get this over with". My nephew talked about that for months after and thought Lima was just the coolest person. I have a ton of respect for him because he loved what he did and no matter how well or how badly he was playing, that joy of being a baseball player was always evident.
  3. Talking about players under another teams control in that manner is tampering, not collusion. Collusion is when the owners band together and agree not to pay a player or players a certain amount or not to sign certain players to drive prices down, etc. thus ending today's vocabulary lesson....
  4. Depodesta was on MLB XM on my way home from work tonight. He basically said that not only do they have no plans to trade Peavy now, they never had any intent to shop him--they were just listening to offers in the off chance that they might catch a windfall that will make the team better. He completely downplayed any budget concerns and actually implied they feel they are going to be competitive this year. So something is blowing a whole lot of smoke up someone's behind. Mind you, this interview with "Hacksaw" (whatever his real name is...I dont pay attention because he annoys me) was approx 5 minutes after Hack announced that the Padres will once again be approaching the Cubs to discuss Peavy for Marshall, Hart, Olsen, and Vitters.
  5. am I the only one aware that Affeldt is now with San Francisco? :-k
  6. Isnt the "derek jeter gene" defined as being overrated?
  7. Honestly, if he really did try to kill 5 people (which i have no idea if it true or not), then 14 years is a gift.
  8. When will people learn to spell Cincinnati? ;) (sorry, couldn't resist)
  9. Just got in 50.....can't promise I will be able to do that everyday, but I will try to get in as many as possible.
  10. I swear, when I first read that, i thought it was gonna say actually able to fit into his uniform.
  11. What does Brooks Robinson have to do with the Nationals? I am guessing he means Frank Robinson--but that confused me as well. But, part of the reason Wilkerson is rumored to be available has been said to be that the Nat's are tired of all of his K's. Um, yeah, Corey fixes that :-k .
  12. Wrong wrong wrong. Look at the Red Sox of 03, with the closer by comittee. Then they fail horribly, realize they need a closer, sign Foulke, and win the World Series. Houston had Lidge. St. Louis has Isringhausen, White Sox had Hermanson/Jenks. The truth is that having a great closer and setup man shortens the game to 7 or 8 innings. Guess how Isringhausen and Hermanson became closers. Nathan, Dempster, and Gagne too. For what it's worth, but Hermanson was drafted as a closer. It wasn't until '97 after being traded to Montreal (via florida) that Alou had him starting. then he bounced back and forth between starting and pen. he was, however, first a pen/closer to be guy.
  13. Isn't Morris' wife a Cubs fan?
  14. I actually think Dontrelle is kinda cute (like little kid cute). But seriously, how anyone could forget the homeliest of the homely, Ron Karkovice. Yick.
  15. Pie is only half the player Pierre is.
