I would love it if Baker realized that there's no point in having a guy whose supposed to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN on the basepaths leading off if you're going to bunt him over every time he gets on base.

That's the real doozy. Pierre's value is in stealing the base on his own. Either have him do that, or let the guy swing away.

****Please note, I'm not trying to just complain during an otherwise good game, this is just something that always perplexes me with Dusty****

But was it a sac bunt or Ronny trying to get on by a bunt on his own?

the bunt was supposed to make the 3B come in and field it so pierre could advance to third with one out...a bunt for a single would have been either much softer down the line, or pushed further up the middle, trying to slap it past the mound

BOTTOM OF THE THIRD INNING

Pierre doubled down the right field line

Cedeno bunted to third for a single, Pierre to third

Walker singled to center field, Pierre scored, Cedeno to third

Ramirez popped out to first base

Murton struck out (called)

Jones grounded out to first, unassisted

1 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 men left on base

Milwaukee 0 0 0 0 3 0

Gameday said strike 1 was a missed bunt. So I doubt it was for a hit on his own.

I honestly don't know. It's just a recurrent concern.

I don't have a problem with the bunt in that situation. Even if Cedeno is out, you move Pierre to third with one out and Walker who makes good contact coming up. On a day with the wind blowing in and Maddux on the mound, getting that third run is a big thing. Playing for one run like that on a day like today isn't too bad a decision.

I HATE not getting the runner in from third with less than 2 out. We did that constantly last year...it cost us a lot of games...

Like I mentioned a minute ago though, I don't think we can dismiss the idea that it wasn't a Dusty idea, but rather a rookie trying to bunt his way on in a situation where you wouldn't really want that.

I don't remember Ronny doing this when he was batting at the bottom of the order.

Fair enough...I missed that.

The Cubs have had a runner on second with no outs and runners on first and third with no outs and have failed to score. Hopefully, that doesn't come back to bite us.

Brewers beware: our bottom of the fourth looks scary.

Hank

Mad Dog

Sadly, the only one I would worry about is Maddux

CUBS with 4 doubles in the game so far, are 1 away from tying their season high of 5 doubles set on openning day in Cincinnati.

Sure scored a lot more runs that day though. 4 doubles and only 3 runs...should be cashing these in more.

If you have the fastest guy on the team already in scoring position I think it's time to let your #2 hitter swing away.
