nice double play.

Almost makes up for me ruining Marshall's no hitter.

Almost.

We'll let ya off if the Cubs can hang on for the win.

As was pointed out, Aramis isn't the fastest guy out there. If you sac bunt, you want to be pretty sure that the runner can score from second. He did there, but it was close. Giving up an out when you still likely need two singles makes it questionable.

Considering who is pitching and the conditions I support the call.

It also puts the Cubs in a position to send Ramirez on a close play since there's already an out. Like I said, you don't want to bunt when you more than likely need two hits to score a run anyways given the speed of the baserunner. Even with the conditions, if there's a smaller chance of the runner on second scoring on a single, it's probably not worth it.

Point taken...I just think station to station baseball in the current conditions will get you no where. Your chances of scoring are better playing small ball tonight. Regaurdless of who is running the bases..

Is there ANY situation where you guys like the sac bunt?

Fast forward the same situation 5 innings.

Why does one run later mean more than one run now? A run is a run; I'll take one in whatever inning I can get it in.

Because the marlins have 5 innings to get that run back. in the 7 or 8 they have less outs.

First hit for Florida, Rocket jinxed it again.

So are we going to blame Rocket for all the jinxing?

I like it. 8)

Rocket is the reason why no Cub will ever throw a no hitter in my lifetime.

If you play for one run that is the best outcome you can expect.

You should only play for one run if you know that is all you will need (i.e., late in a game)

IMO, it wasn't horrible, merely bad.

Barrett is one of the better hitters on the team

Dontrell was having problem with control (as evidenced by the walk and then groving one to Murt).

JJ was in the hole.

but if the Cubs didn't get the run, the Marlins would have had 5 innings to take the lead, I like 1 run lead with our pen + the conditions.

Do you know that there's a better chance of a runner scoring from first with none out than it is for a runner to score from 2nd with 1 out?

At the time of the bunt, the Cubs had 18 outs to score 1 run. In the 9th, which was 5 innings later....the Cubs would be down to their last chance to score in order to win it in 9 innings.

But it's not as if they were playing for one run, and only one run. They were playing for the first run of the game - to take the lead.

I'll stop talking about it now, as the game has moved on. But I still think it was a good call.

Sick of Pierre K-ing

Pierre and Willis are good friends, I bet Juan is really going to hear about this.

- edit I quoted the wrong person, but my thought remains.

I think the point to be made here is that its easier to score 2 or 3 runs with a man on 1st and no outs than it is to score 2 or 3 with one out and a man on second. That's what makes the sac bunt not so hot.

True, the conditions make it more digestable. It still tastes bad but im not vomitting.

I didn't know that. Is that a proven fact?
