Outlandish game prediction of the day:

Cubs: Eleventy billion

Cards: -3

Jerome Williams, in giving up negative 3 runs, is automatically enshrined into the Hall of Fame and has his number retired by MLB. Both Aramis Ramirez and Matt Murton break Fernando Tatis's record by hitting 3 grand slams in the 87-run 1st inning. Juan Pierre and Jacque Jones break out of their slow starts by going a combined 38-40 with 28 walks in the first 4 innings before being lifted for a couple of elderly women sitting behind the Cubs dugout.

Do the -3 runs come from Pujols hitting 3 homers and running the wrong way around the bases?

No, there's a bench clearing brawl in which Zambrano single handedly beats up Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen at the same time. The Cardinals are penalized for 3 runs by the umps out of disgrace for their manhood.

Man.... I sure as hell ain't gonna miss this !!!

Can Carlos play 1B on days he doesn't pitch? He's a better hitter than either Mabry or Neifi or Restovich. Plus, he's a switch-hitter. He can also cure cancer. Play Carlos!

He'd get ticked at Cedeno every time he had to scoop a throw out of the dirt... :P

Yes, but I wouldn't raise both fists up and sigh in the air after every throw.

Z might overlook a couple of off-target Cedeno throws for the sake of TEAM VENEZUELA.

How about off-target throws from Aramis?

He might not be as willing to forgive those. :P

Uh no, keep Carlos away as a first baseman. I wouldn't want to give the Cardinals a chance to try to "run over" him.

It would probably be that little rugrat Eckstein that inflicted the damage too. That's the only way it would be fitting for the Cubs.

Cubs @ Cardinals, 4-21

Lineups:

Pierre 8

Hairston 4

Walker 3

Ramirez 5

Barrett 2

Jones 9

Murton 7

Cedeno 6

Williams 1

Eckstein 6

Rodriguez 7

Pujols 3

Rolen 5

Edmonds 8

Encarnacion 9

Molina 2

Miles 4

Mulder 1

Notes -- To replace the injured Derrek Lee, the Cubs have recalled IF/OF Michael Restovich from their Class AAA team ... La Russa said John Gall "is getting a lot of attention at the big league level. He's doing what he's supposed to do," ... but La Russa wouldn't say what it would take for Gall to get another shot with the Cardinals.

Interesting lineup. Pretty much what I expected, not bad considering the options Dusty has. Not a whole lot of power in that lineup, let's hope they can just get on base and drive each other in.

I kind of like that lineup, given the situation. Some nice speed and contact in there. Essentially we trade DLee's bat for Hairy's -- not a good trade but Hairy does add some things to the mix. It's not a total disaster.

OK, this is my first posting here. I hope that it comes through legibly. After 9 months of Cubs.com, I have simply been sickened by the poor moderation of that forum. A member over here recommended this site. The Cubs will continue playing the small ball without having the power that you mentioned. Dusty has effectively used part of the WS playbook up until this point of season. If we are able to continue the recent pitching productivity and manufacture some runs, we will do just fine this weekend. We still match-up well with the Cards despite injuries.

Tonight's game is huge. It would be nice to get the win and get some confidence under this "new" Cubs team.

Man, I hate Rafael Furcal.

I'll be watching this game with my girlfriend's parents and brothers... all die hard Cardinals fans. Oh joy.

I do think that Williams will have another nice outting. I've been very high on him for awhile now.

Over/under 10 Derrek Lee injury mentions.

A bad pun: Lee single handedly beats up Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen at the same time.

I think u guys forgot that Edmonds is juicing so I think that extra advantage will help the 3 of them take Big Z

I really dont feel like doing match-ups with D. Lee hurt... and I'm not very encouraged with him being out so until he sure to be back shortly, I'm giving up for 2006. If anyone wants to post match-ups for the next few days, be my guest.

The word is White Sox fans are begging for a larger fan base, they will accept you with open arms.

Uncalled for.

I actually thought it was pretty fitting. The entire post struck me as a "fair weather" response.

I kinda feel like giving up too, but I'm not even really a big Cubs fan.

Go Bears.
