Just hit his 9th homer.

At what point do I start to believe this guy is the real deal?

All-Star break, next season. :D

Seriously, I think he just might be. He put up really good numbers in just over 100 games last year.

I believed last season. The guy flat out raked in the minors. It's hard to ignore a line of .332/.428/.539 in just under 1200 minor league at-bats.

I thought going into this season that he could be a legitimate 30-homer guy if he wasn't playing half his games in Detroit. Now I'm starting to think that his home stadium is not going to prevent him from reaching 30+ homers.

A friend of mine in Detroit said he's quickly becoming the toast of the town.

He seems like a good guy from the interviews I've seen. I hope he keeps doing well.

And to go with that, from what ive seen a lot of his homers are in the deep LCF part of Comerica. And they arent just clearing the walls its going 10-20 feet over the fence. They aint cheapies.

He's the real deal. Doesn't this make Pittsburgh decision not to roster him look worse than ours not to roster Sisco?

Pittsburgh just let this guy go?

Prior to the 2004 season.

From Bseball Reference,

December 15, 2003: Drafted by the Detroit Tigers from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2003 rule V draft.

33rd round pick after a 1.206 OPS season at Utah. Hard to leave this guy out there for the Rule V with a 332/428/539/967 line in the minors.

And to think...we had guys like Jose Macias and Enrique Wilison taking up space on our roster at times last year....you can't tell me we couldn't have found room for a guy like that.

I knew this kid would be good when I saw his numbers from last year, but this is just absurd. I'm interested to see how many he'll have by the end of May to see if he can make a run at 40-45.

The kid is for real, to be sure.

Although anybody expecting him to stay anywhere near his 1.706 OPS is insane.

He realistically could be over .900 every year for 3-5 years though.

Edit:

He just got a walk, his OPS is up to 1.716.

If 9 HR's isn't enough, he also leads the league in Triples with 3, and he's among the lead leaders in doubles as well with 5. 17 XBH's already this year. To put that into perspective, only 13 players in either league have more regular any kind of hits than Shelton has XBH's. Shelton does lead the league in regular any kind of hits, however with 24.

7 singles

5 doubles

3 triples

9 HR's

Nice!

Why does Detroit still have this guy hitting 6th?

That 3 triples line is phat. He must be all that slow either.

btw, i think DLee could have had a triple on that deep double last nite if he had hustled. (disclaimer: not saying he wasn't hustling, but he really didn't need to hustle seeing what the game score was. So it's ok.)

It's a good thing I have both of them in my fantasy team. :)
