It was the 35th time in Major League history that a player has homered in four straight at-bats. Carlos Delgado, then with the Toronto Blue Jays, last did it Sept. 25, 2003. The previous time it was accomplished in the National League was by the Atlanta Braves' Andruw Jones from Sept.7-10, 2002.

Pujols joins Stan Musial (July 7-8, 1962) as the lone Cardinals player to do so.

If Pujols can't get any help from Rolen or Edmounds, then I would think that Pujols will be getting IBB'ed alot.

Seems to me that the Cubs pitch around him alot. Apparently, others have not yet caught on....

I don't think the Cubs pitch around Pujols at all. Overall, he has gotten his share of hits but the Cubs did a good job of keeping him to one hit in the last series (without a big number of walks).

Only the Astros and Brewers have walked him more over the past 3 seasons.

MIL - 34

HOU - 33

CHC - 29

CIN - 23

PIT - 21

Surprisingly, the Cards are the only team in the division that have yet to issue him a free pass. :-k

I thik that makes the Cubs about average in pitching around him

**** Pujols.

And his first inning homerun yesterday.

Jake, this is not intended to be a knock against Maholm, but didn't you think the Cards should have scored more runs against him with the way he was pitching (running deep into counts, getting behind batters, the walks). I think we had 16 LOBs. If Pujols goes down, Cards are in big trouble.

HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION

what if steve bartman showed up at a cardinals game and beat the crap out of pujols and albert had to miss the rest of the season?

how far would this go towards redeeming him in the eyes of the public?

I'd give Bartman a seat in the Cubs WS parade.

I'd buy him a drink at the Cubbie Bear-but I would still keep my distance

I would assume that a good number of those walks on the Milwaukee end can be attributed to crappy pitchers rather than the intentional pass.

Among just the starting pitchers from 2003-5 are included such luminaries and control artists as Wes Obermueller, Matt Kinney, Wayne Franklin, post-All-Star-break-day-game-Victor Santos, and yes, everyone's favorite pitcher around here, Glendon "shelled by the pitcher" Rusch.

1. Oberbueller is a Hawkeye -- no making fun.

2. Glendon's official nickname on this board is "[expletive]" because, well, this isn't quantum physics.

Bartman has as much a chance of doing that as Fredbird taking on D Lee.

Actually Fredbird has some pretty good karate action going...

Lee has the reach. I don't think Fredbird would land anything, unless it was your typical run-of-the-mill Cardinal sucker-punch.

I think some of my fellow Cub fans are allowing their fan status to cloud their judgment. Sorry, but if I'm a pitcher I'd rather face Lee under any circumstance rather than Pujols. Not a knock on Lee at all, but I think Pujols right now is the best hitter in the game.

I really don't understand it either. Pujols has overtaken Bonds as the best hitter in baseball. Lee is great, but there's no question who's better. And Lee's defense doesn't make up the difference.

There's only been two people who have said that Lee is better than Pujols, and one of them(Vance) was obviously joking. There was some debate about who's the better defender or who had the better '05, but I don't think people are claiming what you think they are.

Thank you for the feedback, however, this isn't the first debate on this topic on this board. I'm not only referring to those (albeit two) on this thread, but I'm referring to those who already this year and last year were debating who the best was, including those who may only be reading but not posting.
