I found this note from Gammons' blog interesting.

One of the things that has impressed the Cubs most about Matt Murton is that he has attached himself to Greg Maddux to learn about how pitchers think and approach hitters. "Murton wants to learn everything," says one Cubs coach.

Seems like every day we see or hear about Murt doing something to make himself a better ballplayer. I'm thinking we're real lucky to have him in left field for us.

YOu can say what you want about paul oneill but the Yankees havent won a world championship since he retired

Luis Polonia, too.

And Jim "The King" Layritz

I don't think Murton will ever be a superstar, but I believe he's going to have a productive major league career and be a team leader.

I have to disagree, Vance. Anyone this good...this young...has an oustanding chance to be a superstar?

What do you define as superstar? Was Mark Grace a superstar?

Yes, I think Murton is going to be THAT good.

I could see him being Paul O'Neillesque.

That's probably a good comparison.

I could see a Rusty Greer type career as well, without the unfortunate end because of injuries.

Paul O'Neil, I think, is a superstar.

Given that we've been calling him "Murton" in this thread, I think he needs a nickname.

Suggestions?

The only thing my uncreative and severely medicated brain can come up with right now is the Red Egghead.

what was ryne Sandberg supposed to turn out like at this stage, a good two hole hitter? dood kind of reminds me of that, and the way he goes about his game reminds me of ryno. obviously i'm very high on murton.

I'd much rather have Cedeno in the two hole than Murton. Murton is a great No. 5 hitter.

Agreed. I think Murton can develop enough power to be a good No. 5 hitter. He's already shown flashes of it. Let's hope he keeps it up.
