Nomar Garciaparra - 3B - Dodgers

Nomar Garciaparra isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game because of a strained rib muscle.

Here we go again. With Hee-Seop Choi gone (and on the DL anyway), Olmedo Saenz is the backup at first base. Apr. 3 - 2:52 pm et

Not cool. I like Nomar, and wish he was less frail.

He and JD are going to be spending a lot quality time together this year.

your reasoning for thinking drew will be there is.....?

Truthfully, I was glad to see Nomar to play for the Cubs in 2004 and 2005.

But I'm also glad that the Cubs decided not to bring him back, or if they did, that Nomar decided to go to LA instead.

Don't get me wrong, I like Nomar, and he's a good ball-player, but I think that the injuries are getting a little concerning, you know?

I meant to say 2004 and 2005. My bad.

The Nomar trade was a good one in two aspects. 1. Matt Murton 2. I got to see one of my favorite players in the past 10 years play in a Cubs uniform. I hope every year Nomar can get it all together and stay healthy, but I think retirement is in his near future.

Steroids are hell on the body.

you should stop throwing around accusations when you have no idea what the truth is.

that's a pretty funny thing to say with your sig and all.

It's pretty obvious Bonds has used steroids. Not so with Nomar. The amount of circumstantial evidence is infinitely greater for Barroid, than for Nomar.

In fact I'd bet alot of money that Barroid has used and Nomar hasn't.

Nomar just seems like a class act and his attitude is so clean it doesnt seem like he's the type of guy to use roids and diss the game... If he did, which I highly doubt it, he's done a good job of hiding it.

I'm not sure that we (fans outside the business of baseball) can properly judge his "clean attitude". Some individuals are more apt to put their best foot forward in public and thus increase their marketability. Additionally, attitude isn't really a factor when trying to determine if a player used steroids or not. Nice guys were pressured to use steroids just as much as those with abrasive personalities. They were all competing for major league roster spots, stardom, and $$$$. There was an uneven playing field. I don't care to speculate whether Nomar used or not. He certainly didn't gain a tremendous amount of mass, but I can't say that I "highly" doubt that he used. I think there was a VERY deep river of illegal performance enhancing drugs flowing for a long time in the MLB.

Rotoworld's update on Nomar:

Nomar Garciaparra will probably go on the DL Tuesday with a strained intercostal muscle that first bothered him on Sunday.

Garciaparra said he felt tightness in his right side during pregame warmups yesterday. "I kept swinging and kept feeling it," he said. "I was hoping it would feel better today, but it's still pretty sore." Garciaparra added that it was an injury he's never experienced before. It looks like he'll miss two or three weeks, putting Olmedo Saenz and James Loney at first base. No word yet on when the Dodgers are planning to fire GM Ned Colletti.

Barry: Peaked in his late 30s, after hittin 73 when he was 36, and posting more atrocious numbers after that. Admitted to using "the cream and the clear" during testimony (denied knowing they were steriods at the time). Put on considerable mass as he got older, always had a bad disposition. Never missed much time due to injuries before steroid testing began.

Nomar: Peaked in his mid to late 20s (typical for a normal person not on roids). Never put on considerable body mass during his career. Had injury concerns before steroid testing began. Never known to go on a "roid rage," nor has he shown any other symptons of Roid abuse.

The assumption that Nomar's lack of durability is related to roids is ignorant, as he's had problems like this that predated the Roids controversy. Considering the Bonds described in testimony using the cream and the clear, that's a whole 'nother story.
