If the Cubs win that game, Kerry becomes a demigod in Chicago and no one cares that he's never been reliably healthy since. I'm certain of this.

No doubt.

god that was awesome. I didn't remember the state of pandemonium that that HR put the Wrigley crowd in.

I was at that game, standing room only seats right down the first base line. And let me tell you, if you want to know why the concrete at Wrigley was cracking after that year, it's because the stadium was shaking violently after that home run. Literally. Everything was moving, the seats, the railings. It was simply amazing. I've never been apart of something that loud and that exciting before in my life. I was starting to praise Bartman for extending the series so I could be there when they won the pennant. Of course, a short while later, I'd never be that depressed before in my life. I still haven't recovered.

Wow. My brothers were at game 7 and told me the same thing about Woody's HR; Wrigley was literally shaking. The cameras caught the massive throng on Waveland Ave too.

Here's another Wood video on youtube.com, the most dominant 9-inning pitching performance in MLB history. Listen to the crowd really get into it after the 6th inning (even though it wasn't a full house). Holy crap that breaking ball ... this will give you goose bumps too:

At the end of the game, you can see someone in the bleachers with an improvised sign: "E-5"

I can't wait to see Wood's Wrigley debut this year.

My god...I was so in love with that team. What an amazing year. I can't wait until we duplicate it (with better results of course).

Me too. That team was the definitive reminder of why I love sports.

I'll never forget meeting Kerry after he signed my jersey at the 2005 Cubs Convention. I said "Hey Kerry, you're awesome. Game 5 in Atlanta- goosebumbs, man."

His response: "Haha, yeah Adam. Me too."

I sincerely hope he can get back to his old form.

Kerry Wood has always been my favorite Cub to watch, when he's on. He has one of the sickest curveballs I've ever seen - and what's even more amazing is that his slider is just as good and he can throw upwards of 95 mph. I'm glad to see so many people agree with me here - I've got nothing but love for Kerry, and I hope he puts it together this year (and maybe re-signs with the Cubs for a smaller contract? I know, I know. Wishful thinking.)

Agreed. When healthy, Wood is my favorite ML pitcher. Too bad he hasn't been healthy since 2003.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out if there was ever a Cub HR that I have witnessed that was more exciting than this Kerry Wood HR. That was straight electrifying.

It's between that and Sammy's Game 1 blast, but it's impossible for me to pick. I went apes**t when Sammy hit that thing.

I was jumping up and down and my hand hit the ceiling fan. That was unreal.

That homer didn't do much for me when he hit it.

I was still pissed about game 6, and I knew we'd find a way to blow it in Game 7. The Cubs are a team that just doesn't recover from a loss like Game 6.

The Cubs could have been up 15-0 going into the 9th inning and I still would have been convinced we'd have blown it.

I have a very ugly pessimist that comes out sometimes. I think of him as my alter-ego.

That's exactly how I feel. I just knew the Cubs were going to lose Game 7. Game 6 was the crushing blow. They had their chance and we blew it. Josh Beckett never gave the Cubs a chance in Game 5. They had Game 6 and it all unraveled. Game 6 was as close I have ever come to crying after a game.

Wood's performance that game has to be considered one of the best single game performances of all time when you consider that he was just 20 years old and had only made a handful of major league starts up to that point. I'm not saying it's better than Don Larson's perfect game in the World Series, but if you factor in how young he was, it certainly vaults him up the ranks.

In that video, Kerry throws the sickest slider I or anyone else has ever seen to one of the Stros' lefthanded batters. Just a thing of beauty.

It's sad that both he and Prior could have been doing this non-stop for the last four years if there was such a thing as karma.

I barely watched game 7 for that reason. I flipped back and forth and kept up with the score, and I was on the ESPN board at the time, but I didn't watch much of the game. I didn't want to hurt anymore.

2003 was just the most amazing run for me. And when we pretty much had it in the bag and broke down piece by piece in Game 6 and 7..it was heart breaking. I'm sure all of us would love another run like 2003 again. Those were exciting times.

It bothers me to this day that we the fans were a million times more excited than the team was about the HR. They were already deflated. By contrast, everytime one of thier guys got a hit the Fish were like a Little Leagure team. I think that shows that (other than Wood) the team was waiting for something bad to happen again. Dusty deserves at least some blame for not getting them keyed up in that regard.

That September was so awesome.. I went to 3 of the 5 games against the Cards at Wrigley (including the one that was robbed when Alou's double down the line was ruled foul)..
