Hee-Seop Choi's time as a Dodger could be down to its final days, a situation hastened by James Loney's fast-arriving future. The Dodgers likely will make a decision before they break camp in Florida. If they release Choi by March 29, they would owe him approximately $178,000 in salary. -- Orange County Register

What's so special about Loney? Other than 140 AB in rookie ball, he's never posted above a .800 OPS. A first rounder he may be, but something special he is not.

Choi puts up better numbers at the big league level (and he's no stud).

I don't know. But the Dodgers like him.

I thought the Dodgers could have traded Choi to Tampa for Huff before they went on that huge spending spree.

Choi's youth and being inexpensive seemed like a good fit for Tampa.

Tampa probably asked for Laroche and Broxton too.

Before last season, he's been hurt off and on the previous 3 seasons. He still needs to improve the power.

Choi was claimed off of waivers by the Red Sox

Let the Choi and Epstein lovefest commence

Seriously, I hope the guy can figure it out and have a productive career. I liked him, but he has some big holes.

That's a good move for the Red Sox, but they are crowded at the corners with Snow, Youklis, Lowell, and now Choi.

That JT Snow signing really looks out there right now.

I could be remembering wrong but I think I remember Snow being signed primarily as a backup. I don't have any proof but I thought I heard when he signed that he'd be at most a platoon player but probably a backup.

I think Snow was insurance for Youklis and to provide late inning defense.

Exactly. I think his day of consistently starting are over. Great glove for the late innings though.

Would have rather have Choi than Mabry.Choi was Darren Bakers favorite player.

Choi doesn't offer the flexibility of being able to play the OF and 3B.

Personally, I'd rather have Choi and just put Perez at 3rd if we need someone. I'm sure he's better defensively than Mabry. I do like Mabry as a pinch hitter though, so I would propose we get a good CF when the roster cuts come, cut Grissom and use Hairston as the 5th OF. It's too late to do that now though.

Yeah, my issue with bringing Choi in again is whether he can even function as a guy who only gets 5 ABs a week. Not as easy as it sounds.
