Some dude from the Baltimore Sun thinks Walker for Matos is on the horizon:

Also, there's still a very good chance that Todd Walker ends up an Oriole, but don't pencil him at second base if Brian Roberts goes on the disabled list. People in the organization firmly believe that this guy is a designated hitter/pinch hitter. Chris Gomez would get the majority of starts at second base, not Walker. And I wonder how that will sit with him.

Why would we want Matos?

If we're going to trade Walker for a speedy OF, how about that Patterson kid? I know he had a rough year in 2005, but I think he could rebound well.

ESPN Insider sights interest from the Marlins. That seems more likely to me.

This seems to make much more sense. But what would we get for him?

I agree. This doesn't make much sense, but some moves don't. If Walker gets dumped for Matos, his relationship with dusty/hendry must be in the toilet.

Considering the Marlins current state, nothing "in the now". He would traded for a prospect, and I wouldn't even hazard a guess at this point, as the Marlins probably haven't even inventoried and re-evaluated their farm completely yet.

If the trade's with Florida, my guess is the Cubs get minor league pitching for Walker. That's pretty much the only thing the franchise has to offer.

Ugh. The only reason to trade Todd Walker, at this point, is if it improves your 2006 ballclub. Money isn't a problem, we obviously can already afford the team we have and there's nobody to sign with any money you might save.

So...um, why trade him to either the Marlins or Orioles? Unless the Orioles lose their mind and we get that Markakis kid, hehe, it's pointless. I don't even think the Marlins have anything left to get.

Todd Walker on the bench is more valuable than any prospect we could get for him at this point...

Matos fits with the "catch the ball" mentality. Until Pie is ready we don't have anyone to back up Pierre other than Grissom, who is not a good defender. I guess Hairston is no longer viewed as a valid option at CF

I'm not advocating this at all, but is it reasonable to assume that Walker would bring more around the trade deadline? Granted, bigger names will be thrown about, but just a thought that crossed my mind.

Maybe. Even better would be if we were "forced" to keep walker to start the season and he has a .300 BA with a .360 OBP at the break. Then they might be "forced" to keep him all year.

If all we can get for him is Matos, what's the point of trading him? I know it isn't the only reason, but they are way too bent out of shape by his comments. I don't think his were any worse than Neifi's comments a few weeks ago, plus Neifi sucks.

I completely agree. The best thing the Cubs could do is be unable to trade him, though it would be even worse if they kept him, but benched him, further lowering his value.

Maybe the Marlins would give us Pinto back.

I'd rather have Nolasco back. I'm a Pinto fan, but of the guys at AA last year (Hill, Guzman, Nolasco, Marshall), I think he has the least amount of upside and the largest control issue.

How come we couldn't ever get decent major leaguers who could consistantly hit .300 for minor league pitching when that was all we had to offer a few years ago?

Too reluctant to trade the pitching. Now most of that pitching has been injured and/or didn't pan out. I blame the scouting dept who hasn't been able to help Hendry recognize when to make a trade or not. The Cubs haven't traded a minor leaguer at their peak value yet.

Sanchez? Beltran?

Justin Jones, Brendan Harris, and Frankie Beltran for Murton and Nomar seemed like a pretty good job of selling high.

You know, if Juan Pierre off of a bad year equaled Pinto, Nolasco, and Mitre, then shouldn't Todd Walker equal at least Pinto & Nolasco?

Twalk must walk around the locker room slapping people on the a$$ and giving people wedgies. That must be it. That's why we keep hearing he's going to be traded.

Didn't he sleep with Suzanne Dorn right before that 1-game playoff?
