Name the player you'd most want from an NL Central rival who you think is undervalued by their current organization (Dunn is not included in this game!). And again it's not whether the fan base undervalues them, but their organization. Also, not a prospect, because that could take this topic all over the map and some just aren't as familiar with other teams prospects.

For me (although I'm biased because I only spend time here as far as rival boards go):

1. Murton

2. Walker

3. Davis or Capuano

Caveat (I don't think Pitt undervalues Duke or Maholm).

Jason Bay

Andy Pettitte

I dont think either of those guys are undervalued by their teams, mine would be

1. Walker

2. Javier Valentin

3. Jody Gerut- I think he will have a good year this year.

Yeah, the "undervalued" thing is a nebulous term, as no one really knows what the heck these GMs are thinking. I guess one indication is the dollar amount of their contract which would eliminate Pettitte.

Sorry if this belongs on Polls.

Why can't I choose Dunn?!?!? :x

Ok, well if I can't choose Dunn, I think I'd take Billy Hall, Jason Bay, or Ollie Perez.

Because if you choose Dunn, then Rocket Sauce will choose Dunn ten times over and it will be anarchy!

If you're looking for a guy who some NL Central team doesn't play despite having obvious value, I would think that Murton, Valentin, Sanchez, and Ryan Freel come immediately to mind.

As I said, undervalued is a nebulous term and the fact these teams have them on the 25 man rosters shows they value them to some extent.

Three things that might mean a player is undervalued in my world is they are being paid low $ compared to their value (mostly applies to free agent signings), they are under or wrongly utilized by their current teams, or they have been mentioned in trade talks.

you mean there are people who don't understand the greatness of mercker?

Wouldn't you say that the Cubs and Reds haven't? The Reds don't use him every game like they could. The Cubs let him go.

I think the MLB rulebook they have restrictions on the usage of KENT.

It's interesting to see Oliver Perez's name here.

Now, I am by no means saying I want the Pirates to trade him, or even entertain offers for him.

But, the guy had one good season, and it wasn't last year. He has a career ERA > 5, including his one good year. Incidentally, in that very good year, I thought he should not have made the major league team, based on how he pitched in spring training that year. And, it's not like he did much before that to warrant a spring training mulligan.

Interestingly enough, The year before Ollie had his good year, Kip Wells had a fantastic year. He had the sixth best ERA in the NL. Although his record was something like 10-12, the bullpen blew at least 7 games of his. He easily could have been 15-9 or so that year. He was hurt much of the year after. Last year was a disaster for him.

So, basically what I'm saying here, is Kip has done more in the majors than Ollie, yet no one here has mentioned him.

On a side note, if Mack-O-Whack was still a Bucco, how many of you would want him?

My understanding is that Kip Wells has never been a young lefty with Randy Johnson stuff and ridiculous strikeout numbers, and probably never will be.

Furthermore, my understanding is that Kip Wells has never even be genuinely good for a middle aged right handed pitcher with plus stuff. Even in 2003, his Fielding Independent ERA: 4.44. His career ERA: 4.36.

So when Kip Wells learns how to get hitters to only hit .259 off him (2003) when they put the ball in play, as opposed to his perfectly normal .299 career mark, which is what made the difference for him that year, then maybe he's worth paying attention to.

Until then, or until he gets lucky again, or until he becomes that young lefty with Randy Johnson stuff and so on, not so much.
