Good to see Hendry is preparing for Wood and Prior to be out for a period of time with that signing of Wade Miller.

Hendry has learned his lesson from 2004 and 2005.

Miller (Cubs #7 SP) >> Ponson(Cards #5)

2001 Miller > 2005 Ponson

2006 Miller = Allen Benes

Alright!! Enough in-fighting! Bring on the Cards fans!!!

:D

Any takers on the Marmol conversation? Compared to a young Z in the Muskat column on Cubs.com

Carlos Marmol turns 24 this season.

Carlos Zambrano turns 25 this season.

Let's stop and think about this statement for a moment.

Terrific signing by JH, though!

Im not expecting alot out of Miller considering he underwent labrum surgery at the end of September. But if he is healthy he is a good pitcher. The one thing that came to mind when i heard of this signing was when Carlos Zambrano hit that homerun off him in 2003.

There have been several posts wishing a 2007 option was included, but correct me if I'm wrong here.... couldn't the Cubs just offer Miller arbitration after 2006? At $1mil the risk is low if he accepts, and if has a great 2006 and rejects arbitration, the Cubs get draft pick compensation. Not bad at all either way.

Good signing in and of itself, but it does underscore my disappointment that Hendry didn't pursue another top-3 type starter, which we need IMO, and Wade Miller ain't it.

I'm not sure, a quick glance shows that he's borderline to be a FA after next season.

By number of seasons, he should be a FA after this year. I'm not sure how the injuries affect service time though.

Either way, with a 1 million base, it's a safe bet that if he's back to his 2003 form, the Cubs could offer him arbitration. If he leaves, he should be at least a type B FA.

Mark Grace > 2005 Ponson...at pitching.

I believe Grace pitched an inning a few yrs ago for Arizona.

I like this deal a lot!

I'm with you.

Little risk/possible huge rewards

Dierker abused him pretty heavily, hopefully the time off and surgery will put life back into that arm.

Hymie Navarro>>> 2006 Ponson

Since I don't think you are a bigot, it should be Jaime Navarro

Fixed. And thank you for the heads up. Had no idea there was any kind of slur behind that reference, sorry if anyone was unintentionally offended.

I didn't think it was intentional
