is Millers injury similar to Fox's?? any idea which other pitchers have had this injury and come back strong??

Fox always had problems with his elbow. Miller had a torn labrum. Didn't Miller have the same surgery that Wood had or Matt Morris had the year before?

If he could come back as Morris did last year and is not rushed this could be a sensational deal.

Agreed. I'm a big fan on the deal. Give him a chance to recover and see what he's got after that. If he doesn't work out it's only $1 million. Much paying him a $1 million and him turn into a bust instead of paying the same to a macias-type player.

I believe Chris Carpenter's injury was even more severe, but he went ahead and had surgery.

Hows this for a potential '07 rotation??

Zambrano

Prior

Hill

Guzman / Williams

Miller/Marmol

Some nice upside there without some additions which there will be next winter.

I'm thinking:

Zambrano

Prior

Wood

Miller

Guzman / Hill / Marmol

Jerome Williams is not in my immediate plans for the rotation. I'd trade him if he's got any real value.

Where's Maddux? I don't think he's going to the pen, or I sure as hell hope not. He's terrible in the first inning IIRC.

I like this signing, A++, wish he would do it again. Z/Prior/Wood/Miller/Maddux would be my guess. Williams will be traded some time, and they'll probably use Hill out of the pen or as a spot starter, like Guzman.

They are talking about 2007. Of course, Wood's mutual option would have to be exercised to see him too.

Personally, I think we've got better options than Maddux for starter and really wish his $ was off the books. He stinks for $9 Million dollars. I really, really hope that he gets in shape this year. He's shaped like a middle aged woman.

$1 million base with $1 million in incentives based soley on the number of starts he makes is a lot less than I was expecting. Doesn't look like there's an option, though, which hurts.

Nice deal. He makes Glendon Rusch awfully expendable come June 15th.....

Pretty sure Glendon never filed for free agency, we can trade him anytime.

Only like this signing if the Cubs are planning on using him from the bullpen, which I highly doubt since he probably wouldn't have come to the Cubs to pitch out of the BP.

That's why I'm not getting too excited about this like everyone else. This guy will never staty healthy logging innings as a starter. Never. He's in the same boat as Wood, for they both have messed up deliveries and Miller's arm nearly fell off again at the end of last season, as a starter.

Wasn't it just noted that he had the same injury as both Morris and Carpenter? To say he'll never stay healthy really makes no sense.

Correct. And it makes zero sense to put him in the bullpen. Folks need to understand each specific injury in context to how it affects performance before lumping them all together and making assumptions on comebacks. Miller is a career starter, and when healthy, a damn good one.

You do realize that this is his 2nd surgery in the last 2 1/2 years right? I guess maybe that's why I said he'll never be healthy, as a starter. Oh, that and his delivery is atrocious, unlike Morris's and Carpenter's.

What again was Miller last season with the Red Sox? You know, before his arm fell off and had to have surgery again?

Let's not forget all the one time starters who have had arm surgery and have thrived in the pen (Dempster).

Regardless, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that, because of the contract, he'll get every chance to break into the rotation when healthy.
