From today's Sun-Times:

The Cubs would seem to need a right-handed-hitting reserve outfielder and perhaps a more versatile infielder than Todd Walker, who is third on the depth chart at second base behind Neifi Perez and Jerry Hairston.

Ok...I might could see trading Walker if it improves the team, but to put him behind Perez and JHJR for playing time is just stupid!

Better go to transactions and revise your 2006 line-up and put ol' Neifi in at 2nd base.... :(

Good lord almighty....this team is headed for disaster....

A little surprised...a little dissapointed...a little pissed off. Many feelings on this one.

Surprised and pissed would be a nice way to describe it. Nothing usually surprises me, but if Neifi is starting at 2B this Spring, that would surprise and anger me.

It would be like Publisher's ClearingHouse coming to my door, me getting all excited as this 1995 Dodge Caravan pulls up with the balloons, I open the door and they shoot my dog, instead of giving me a big cardboard check.

That would be the icing on the moldy cake.

mmm....moldy cake.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Hendry recently talked about how Hairston, Neifi, and Cedeno were all viable options at 2nd base. He made no mention of Walker what-so-ever. Walker must have slept with Dusty's wife or something because I really don't understand why he's fallen from graces so quickly.

And just to add a little insult to injury Hendry picked up Walker's option.

I have to think Hendry is planning on trading him. I just hope it is not for PTBL.

Neifi, Hairston, and Walker played some catch last week. First one to not catch the ball was 3rd on the depth chart. Neifi threw the ball into the ground 5 feet in front of Walker. Dusty said, "Sorry Walk...tough luck. Neifi - nice throw, DLee would pick that clean. You start."

I can think of no other possible explanation.

I don't think anybody here is surprised. Disgusted is more like it. Although we ALL saw this coming I think most people were still holding onto that liiiittttttlllleee bit of optimism in hoping Neifi would just be a backup. Shame on us.

This is why Cub fans, on an annual basis, are some of the STUPIDEST people on the planet. We routinely are toyed with, let down, stepped on , demoralized, etc, etc, yet we always come back for more. If this isn't the definition of idiocy I don't know what is. And shamefully, I'm probably NUMBER 1 on that list.

HAHA! Good stuff. I can totally see that happening. Well, not really. But, I would like to hear a better theory.

there's no doubt he's going to be traded. I just find it so hard to believe a guy like Walker, as cheap as he is and as good as he is for his price, is going to be shipped out for probably some crap minor leaguers. Absolutely pathetic management.

Some people were aghast at my raging disgust over the fact that Perez was being brought back in any capacity. This is the kind of garbage I knew was coming.

I hate that ridiculous looking piece of crap.

AramisRamirez needs to make an appearance in this thread and tell us what he's going to do if this really comes to pass.

Would it involve heroin and needles and foreheads, or something much worse?

Its only natural since neifi and hairston (soon to be) will have bigger contracts that walker. I mean guys who get paid more should play more rigth? Until i see it, then ill believe it. I cant believe they would be so bufoonish.

I honestly hope Walker absolutely RIPS into the Cubs publicly if he is traded. This is the most beyond-unexplainable maneuver that I've seen the Cubs make.
