He said that the reason Tejada doesn't want to play there is personal beef with Ramon Hernandez and the Orioles knew that and still signed him.

He also said that Hendry has already contacted the Orioles and that the Cubs have a perfect fit for their needs. He said no names have been discussed but expect them to talk about names today and tomorrow.

They'll need a new SS, and they have no pitching, so I'm guessing Cedeno/Williams/Hill.

If that was all it took this deal would have been done yesterday.

Maybe they want Hairston back...

Maybe we want to trade them Hairston and that's what is slowing things down.

I tell you, if good will between the organization after the Sammy trade (where we were more than fair, paid the guy to play for them and took back just Hairston and a couple throw-away prospects) gets us Miggy, all is forgiven!

I'd start with Williams, Hill, and Cedeno, and be prepared to throw one more chip in if I had too. Sadly, they saw that the Marlins got 3 pitchers out of us for Pierre, they'll probably want 3 and Cedeno to fill in for Miggy.

Well, I hope Hendry is serious about doing this, because, depending on what the Cubs give up, this would greatly improve the teams offseason.

I mentioned this on another thread but with the Cubs' old scouting director now working as Baltimore's assistant GM he may want to primarily target guys in our farm system right now. Something like Cedeno/Aardsma/Hill/and one minor league bat could very well be the asking price.

Wonder what Hendry would say of they wanted both Hill and Guzman as part of any deal? I know Guzman's hurt but Stockstill should have a pretty good idea of Guman's status and he may think it's worth the risk.

Yeah, I think Tejada would GREATLY IMPROVE the offense, give us another slugger. Then we could go with someone cheaper in RF like Mench or someone to that nature that doesn't make much money but is decent.

Imagine....Lee, Tejada, Ramirez....WOW!!

But then again...THIS IS THE CUBS we are talking about....you know they will say they "tried" to get him, but things just didn't work out.

Watch and see....

Or, we could just play Patterson there, and bat him at the bottom of the order.

Getting Tejada changes everything. With more speed at the top of the lineup, and a 3,4,5 of Lee/Tejada/Ramirez, the offense will finally be championship-caliber.

Okay, lets just pretend we actually get him for a second. So our infield is set. Then what do we do about right field? Do the Cubs try and trade for a rightfielder?

At the end of the day, I just don't see Baltimore making any deal. They cannot possibly get fair value back. A disgruntled Tejada is still night and day better than 95% of all other SS out there. Who could the Cubs offer?

Lot of young pitching to work with Yoda Mazzone.

On the latest ESPN 1000 update they said a source close to Levine has told him that Tejada would be interested in playing for the Cubs.

Who'd be at 2nd? I would guess Hairston. TWalks not staying here, whether we like it or not. If Jim is REALLY good, he could convince them to take Hairston instead of RonnyC, but I don't think there's a chance on earth we could pull that one off.

Maybe they'll agree to take Fontenot back instead.

Assuming Hendry pulled the big "I hate Todd Walker" stick out of his *** and did htis deal as well, would there be a better offensive infield in baseball than Lee, Ramirez, Tejada, Walker (and Barrett?)

You know, Baltimore still owes the Cubs a PTBNL fromt he Sosa deal because that Crouthers guy retired.

If something for Tejada were to be worked out, I'd probably just let them slide on it, though.

Quite a few. Ramirez is at best average at third. Walker is below average at second. The IF would be strong at SS and 1B, but wouldn't rank at the top of all MLB IF's.

Now, if Hendry trades Walker and we end up with Lee, Cedeno, Tejada & Ramirez, that would be pretty impressive defensively.

If we could just pry BWilk from TX for RF, Tejada at SS...I'd be happy with this offseason if we could go into next season with:

CF Pierre .360 OBP

2B Walker/JHJR .350 OBP

1B DLee .400 OBP

SS Tejada .350 OBP

3B Ramirez .370 OBP

RF BWilk .360 OBP

LF Murton .350 OBP

C Barrett .350 OBP

None of those OBPs are too unreasonable, maybe a little hopeful, but not unreasonable. I could go with that, that'd be a HUGE upgrade over last year.

Pen is solid, bottom of the rotation is the only worry. Wood would need to be healthy if we don't bag another starter, or Rusch would have to have another season like he had in '04.

Tim,

Are you thinking defensively? Aramis is way above average offensively.
