I mentioned this on another thread but with the Cubs' old scouting director now working as Baltimore's assistant GM he may want to primarily target guys in our farm system right now. Something like Cedeno/Aardsma/Hill/and one minor league bat could very well be the asking price.

Wonder what Hendry would say of they wanted both Hill and Guzman as part of any deal? I know Guzman's hurt but Stockstill should have a pretty good idea of Guman's status and he may think it's worth the risk.

Miake it Cedeno, Aardsma, Williams, and a bat and you've got a deal.

I don't think the issue is whether the Orioles would want Manny.

I think it's whether Manny would approve a trade to go there.

Does everyone think we actually have a shot at getting Tejada? I would love if the deal happened, but just searching around the internet, it seems like the only news I've seen concerning the Cubs and Tejada is Bruce Miles article. The rest of the articles concern Boston being a likely trade partner.

Well Bruce's report isn't the only thing talking abou it. It's on the Score, ESPN 1000, and XM Radio MLB Home Plate. Everyone is talking about it.

Someone on another thread said someone who is close to Tejada said Tejada would be happy to come to the Cubs if a trade happened.

Go to the Cardinals board.....4 threads about Tejada going to the Cardinals. I suspect that every message board for every team is currently chewing on why Tejada will end up with them in the near future. Dont get your hopes up.

Here's my offer for Tejada:

Corey Patterson, Ronny Cedeno, one of Brian Dopirak/Ryan Harvey, and one from each of the following two groups:

Michael Wuertz/Rich Hill/Angel Guzman/Jae-Kuk Ryu

Roberto Novoa/Jerome Williams/Sean Marshall/Carlos Marmol

If they want/need a "recognizable name", we can talk about Todd Walker or Scott Williamson.

That bat will have to be Pie (maybe Harvey) for that deal to work. Aardsma's trade value is not that high.

The O's have Roberts so I don't se the need for Walker unless Roberts can slide into the SS position.

They do have DH and 1B at-bats available.

There's a big difference between speculation on message boards, and ESPN, XM Radio, and other media outlets talking about it.

Manny may be expensive. But, Angelos has the money, and Manny produces on par with his salary. I am often surprised at how underappreciated/valued Manny is. Sure, he is a headcase. But, he still produces during his "episodes", his teammates continue to like him (see, Pedro, Ortiz, Damon), and his consistency is staggering.

no doubt Angelos has the money. the question is will he spend it. he's gone out on limbs before. in the 90's the O's had the highest payroll for a couple years. but, he just lost a big chunk of his market.

I don't think Angelos would want to take on that salary unless he stood a chance of winning. Manny is definitely worth the money he's paid, but Tejada's probably the better value and the addition of Manny would also come with the subtraction of Tejada. even with Cox I don't think the O's pitching staff is going anywhere . they don't stand a chance of competing in that division anyway before Manny's contract expires. the better option would probably be to rebuild.

Don't get your hopes down. And another thing, I'm just responding to Lemehearya, who asked who else is reporting it.

Angelos doesn't want to throw up a white flag with the Nats in his backyard now, but on the other hand, his market (and thus, revenue) has shrunk. I think he'll look for the best deal that saves him a bit of cash without taking a huge step backwards. I think the key to us making a deal is convincing him of the chances of Cedeno hitting .300 with an OBP of around .350 next year, minimizing the impact of the loss of Tejada, while saving 10 mil a year. Was Stockstill pretty high on Cedeno when he was over here? People questioned Hendry when he put Cedeno on the 40 man roster, as his chance of sticking with another team at that time was about nil. Someone else in the organization must have been touting Cedeno as well. If Stockstill was part of that and is still high in Cedeno, we might have a solid deal here.

I say make the O's a starting offer of Cedeno/Williams/Hill plus give them a list of other players and let them have one player on the list. Should be someone decent, but not Pie. The O's may or may not take the offer but they would at least be tempted.

Am I the only one here who would rather see Pie in a trade rather than Cedeno?

I just have a gut feeling that Cedeno will be a better ballplayer. I don't know why or have any stats to back it up, just a feeling.

Ok....I wont get my hopes down. The Cubs have an excellent track record of pulling off big deals that help the team get to the World Series. My point was that ALL of this stuff is pure speculation. Including what "media" outlets may be saying. This stuff feeds on itself. THe most probable thing is that Tejada stays where he is. Not very exciting....but most likely.

If Tejada is indeed traded, watch out for the Astros.

What could they offer them?

Quality young pitching and plenty of it!

So can we, but we can also fill the hole that would be opened at SS. Do they have any high-celiing SS prospects available in their system?

I thought they had a pretty young SS that started in the World Series for them last year...didn't they?

Pretty much.

We're more likely to have to give up Cedeno than Pie anyway, because Baltimore doesn't have an in-house SS option unless they move Roberts over there, in which case Walker would be on the table instead of Cedeno.

He's not that young, he'll be 29 before the season starts, and has yet to post an OBP over .320 or a slg over .400. Career OPS is .670, .654 last year. He's above average defensively, but he'll never be confused with a gold glover. His VORP rated below Neifi Perez and Jack Wilson. I don't know why Baltimore would have the least amount of interest in him.

edit: Just a funny fact...while reviewing the VORP rankings, Miguel Olivo was the worst in the majors with a negative 12.8 The second worst rated player by VORP in baseball? Corey Patterson, at -10.6. We all knew he had a bad year, but I didn't realize it was that bad when measured against the rest of MLB.
