Fun times!

:willynilly:

This is awesome. I need to go to bed cause I have church in the morning. But oh well, i'll sleep when I get back.

Fortunately for me I came home after something this morning, went back to sleep, and woke up mid afternoon!

even if the Dodgers are just OFFERING this, It would be moronic for Furcal to turn it down. That's some serious cash.

but he would have $10 million more guaranteed with the Cubs offer. When he becomes the next Alex Gonzalez at Chavez, he won't get those last two years worth of money.

For those of you looking for a mental image of Hendry's backup/panic plan, think about a guy frantically shopping for gifts at the last minute, tossing anything and everything into a cart without regard for quality, cost or whether or not it's actually an appropriate gift.

So do you think we're going to end up signing like 4 more pitchers? Maybe like 3 more catchers and Rubby Perez?

The more Perez, the better, I say.

I actually think we'll end up with like 2 more utility IF/OF and one mediocre OF.

The Cubs offered more (not more per, but more) with more guaranteed years.

That's the weird thing about this. Turning down a 5-year deal for a 3-year deal flies in the face of all agent logic.

Not really, in 3 years, he'll earn ~40. If he signs even a 2 year deal at that exact same rate after that deal he'd end up with far more CASH than the Cubs offer over 5.

It only defies one aspect of agent logic, length (security). But it obeys the first one - get as much cash as possible, at all times. Furcal must feel like he won't get hurt. And, as pointed out, he'll only be 31 when that deal is up. Provided his skills/stats don't fall off (and what pro athlete ever thinks they will?) he'll still be demanding a large wad of $.

But to equal the total $ the Cubs are offering, he would only have to make $4 million a year the 2 years after this deal. Considering that's not much more than we'd give Neifi in 3 years with inflation, I find it hard to believe that (if healthy) he would get less than 4 million a year for 2 years after this current deal.

I got a gut feeling that Hendry may make a big push for Johnny Damon now. 4 years 40 mil? I don't think it is the best idea but I think Hendry is gonna feel like he needs to make a big splash. Hendry better keep Walker. You can count on him to be in the top if the order and be consistent all year and we are going to need that with Perez/Cedeno at short.

Plan and simple Furcal is not worth 13 mil a season. I am not upset the least bit that Hendry did not match or up his offer. Hendry made the right decision on that one.

Is there a return policy?

Shame on the both of you.

Don't you know it's the thought that counts??

Furcal signing with the Dodgers makes Bradley coming here a greater possibility, this is a good thing. Trade for Bradley and Lowe(Hill, Patterson, Mitre), then trade for Lugo and Gomes(Williams, Pinto/Nolasco/Marmol, Craig). Offseason over except for the bench.

I believed you. Sorry, I posted the two links a little bit ago. Maybe his "source" learned something new?

Regardless of what you think he's worth, I highly doubt 4/40 will get you Damon.

He....Didnt.....Sign. At least, we dont think so. The LA Times (the only news outlet to actually report the signing) has pulled the article from its site.

No way

12 Starting pitchers, b/c you need depth

Eyre, Howry, & Dempster in the pen

Aramis, Lee, Barett, Hank White

Neifi, Macis, Jack Jones (American spelling), Soriano

Cedeno, and Piere

Guraenteed for at least 40 wins and probalby a few more.

Works for me. I would also accept Wilkerson in place of Gomes. Who knows how much they value him with the new regime there (I would assume highly, but who knows).

Well, it's kind of awesome that NOBODY actually knows what's going on - but it's not awesome that we might be paying Furcal all that money.

Secondly, the word "asque" (used in reference to Pierre's hat) is awesome.

(I'm not ripping on whoever it is that used it - it just took me a minute to figure out what it was, and then I laughed)

So if the story is removed then how does that mean it is true? Wouldnt that mean that it is wrong?

Thats what I was saying....

Don't know if its been reported here yet, i heard an interview on the score about 20 minutes ago from the guy who wrote the LA Times piece. He seemed pretty sure of the deal and was talking as if it was complete...
