Todd Walker for starting 2B in 2006. He's cheap and good. Who's with me?

I've been with you since day one on this.

To paraphrase Bill Clinton: It's the outfield, stupid!

I'm all about Todd Walker. Problem is, I don't think Hendry or Dusty are.

well, let's give ramonbackwards a call and get him signed back up.

cedeno can back up 2b and ss and start for us in '07.

Why aren't ESPN/FOXSports/Chicago media picking this up?

Do I smell another ESPN reporting Maddux goes to Yankees back in 2004?

C'mon brotha's ... hold out hope, maybe Furcal is going to be a Cub after all.

It's what I'm hoping!

He's expected to undergo a physical tomorrow and the deal could be announced on Monday. It's a great contract for Furcal, who will likely be able to land another big deal in three years at age 31.

Amazingly, I'm not the slightest bit phased by this news.

Neither am I. I've wanted Cedeno to be SS since the offseason began. I don't think Furcal was worth $10M per year -- let alone $13M.

No other news outlets have picked up on this. Sports Center is on now, and nothing yet. We'll see.

I agree to a point here - I don't want Furcal at $10m+ - but I wouldn't mind seeing Nomar re-signed for a year. If that isn't happening, I'm all for starting Cedeno at SS. The problem with that plan is that I can't imagine Dusty actually doing it, especially with another rookie (Murton) starting.

Looks like we might see a lot of Neifi again in 2006....

I like the analogy.

I. Did. Not. Trade. A. Cheap. Good. 2nd Baseman.

Aha! I was wondering why he'd possibly decline 5/nearly 50 for 3/40. (The LA Times article said that we had offered him 5 years and just under 50 mill.)

I think assuming this makes Cedeno the starting SS is assuming too much.

Completely agree. The only thing that is keeping me from being legitimately 'happy' about this is that we have possibly the anti-OBP waiting in the wings at SS. I purged my brain of the #'s he pulled last year as far as ABs per BB goes, because knowing them made it impossible to live.

To parpharase Barbara Mandrell: I was for the outfiled when the outfiled wasn't cool.

BTW, I love the Lousiana Lumberjack

I'll believe Furcal is a Dodger when it is finally announced...until then he's still unsigned.

My free agent guesses ballot agrees with you. LOL

Well, the deal isn't sealed yet, but I am one happy camper right now.

50M/5, or thereabouts, was ridiculous. Thank God someone saved Hendry from himself. Furcal was a second tier player who showed little improvement, but a lot of consistency. What he would have given us was not worth 10M/year.

Cedeno time, baby! Chah-Ching!!

I'm a little upset that this may sour Hendry going after Bradley, but keeping the 5 year monstrosity off the payroll still has me grinning. :D

LOL that is sick

I would really rather we spent the $10 million a year on Burnett - even though he's KWood II in waiting. The upside of Burnett vs. Furcal's upside makes it a no brainer. The last year or two is probably as good as it's going to get. There is very few places to go but down for him, especially with his reliance upon speed (for defense and sbs).

Sweet, Furcal isn't worth more than $10 mil per season. No way do I top 13.

Keep Walker (stupid to let him go anyway), and if we upgrade CF and RF, then I"m content with whatever happens at SS (much happier if it's Cedeno than Perez).

I want Bradley by the end of the winter meetings (don't take a chance on a non tender, trade for him) and an impact bat in right soon after (Abreu or Dunn, IMHO). Do that and we're set. Heaven forbid Walker and his OBP leads off...
