1st topic ever posted so give me the benefit of the doubt..........

I've been following this team for over 25 years plus........they have always been the "lovable losers" and as far as I am concerned when they win it all they better be "lovable" too. I have no interest whatsoever in the Cubs adding his bat and glove. Sure his stats would look nice in our lineup, but I have waited too long and cheered too hard for this less then stellar citizen to wear Cubbie blue when we win the title.

My two cents.

I can see your point but I have to say I would like Bradley more than some of the characters we had in 2005. I cannot remember a Cubs team I disliked more than the 2005 version.

You must have missed the 04 season then ....

Agreed. Also, beggars can't be choosers.

EDIT: I could also see myself really liking Bradley, like the way he plays the game.

As a fan I'd take Bradley in an instant. As a GM, I would definitely evaluate these possible character issues very closely before actually making a move for Bradley. There's no doubt about it, Bradley would make an impact in any lineup. He sports a high OBP, has some pop, decent speed, he really could hit any spot in the batting order 1-8. Defensively, I'd say he's above average, getting good jumps and tracking down everything hit to him.

So, Bradley would definitely be worth a look, but like I said I'd look more into it as a GM than I am as a fan. If I were Hendry, I'd call around asking some former players of Bradley what they think of him as a person before making a decision.

Dealing w/ players is supposed to be a strength of Dusty's so I would get permission from the Dodgers to have Dusty talk w/ him and go from there. A player I would like for us to inquire about is Alexis Rios who the Jays were rumored to have offered to Texas for Mench. He does not hit for enough power currently for a corner spot but he could play CF for us.

If I remember correctly wasn't Bradley a little upset about being moved to RF when Drew was signed? I'm not saying that being peeved for X amount of time is OK but I wonder if that had a negative effect on him.

good point cpatt - at least bradley has some passion and fire. a bit too much perhaps.

passion and fire? among other brutally violent episodes, the guy tried to choke his pregnant wife. i think you are confusing psychosis with passion. if he were not a pro baseball player they would have locked him up and thrown away the key long ago.

Good point. Amazing what a guy that can play a sport well can get away with.

I believe he took it pretty well actually. He really wanted to be in CF, because that's where he felt the most comfortable. But I believe he said he would have gladly played RF.

Yep, here it is:

"He was telling me he's not trying to step on any toes," Bradley told the Los Angeles Times. "We are in agreement that we want what's best for the team. We want everybody to fulfill his potential.

"I'm more comfortable in center field; he doesn't want me to be uncomfortable. If he can play right field without aggravating his knee, that would be great. But if his knee is acting up, he'll let me know and he can shift over for a couple of weeks."

Bradley was the Dodgers' center fielder for much of last year before moving to right when the team acquired Steve Finley for the playoff push.

Bradley said Feb. 22 he gladly made the switch because he felt it was the best way for the team to make the playoffs. But he also said he was told at the time that the switch was temporary. And his comfort level isn't as good in right.

If there is truth to this story, then I don't want him. Its one thing to fight with a teammate (or even to chuck a bottle at a guy who is probably insulting your mother). Its another thing to choke your pregnant wife. That's not ok, and I really do not care how high his OBP is.

Interesting, thanks Raw. Was Drew in CF when Bradley went balistic?

I thought that was in 04, with Finley in CF.

True, I mean when Kent and Bradley got into it?

Me personally, I don't care if they are lovable or not. I prefer "the most loathed WS Champs ever" to "lovable losers," but that's just me.

The 2005 version wore me out too.

Bradley has wore out his welcome with Cleveland and the Dodgers............can't imagine why Chicago would be any different

Too bad the cubs arent lovable losers anymore. But just losers.

I agree that due dilligence is definitely necessary, but Im not sure if negative feedback would deter me. Remember, Bradley will cost us next to nothing in terms of players and very little in terms of salary. There has never been any racial problems on the team (besides reverse racism by dusty). He is about to have his first child and that often has calming affects on disgruntled young males.

I'd go after Bradley especially if the cost is low. Now I do remember hearing that he was hurt and wouldn't be able to play for awhile so that shuld decrease the cost a lot IMO. While he is on the mend the Cubs can see if Murton is the real deal and if Murton is it wouldn't hurt to have 4 good OF's for once assuming that the Cubs get an impact bat for right. If Murton is struggling he can move to the 4th OF and Bradley can go to CF or LF depending on who the Cubs have for CF.
