To possibly keep Furcal...

I find this odd to be mentioned now, certainly the Braves want to keep the SS

But, Chipper has mentioned this before, this is not something that has just transpired in the last 24 hours just to keep Furcal.

I agree, classy move by Chipper (although he makes a nice chunk of change) however....I would be suprised if it is enough to keep Furcal.

If the Braves are going to keep Furcal, why don't we just trade for either Marcus Giles or Wilson Betemit? There isn't room in Atlanta for all three of them. There has been talk of Betemit being moved to 3B, but that doesn't makes sense, as Andy Marte is even better yet.

So, Giles or Furcal or Betemit. Give me any one of the three, I don't care.

My prediction of our lineup next year:

Perez - SS

Cedeno/Macais - 2B

Lee - 1B

Ramirez - SS

Encarnation/Jones - RF

Patterson - CF

Murton - LF

Barrett - C (catchers gotta hit 8th)

That is a team I will not be happy with nor will I spend money to see neifi perez leading a team that is not improved lineup wise.

Take it with a grain of salt regarding Furcal, but......

According to MLB.com's Marty Noble, the Mets are convinced Rafael Furcal will sign with the Cubs.

If Chipper Jones restuctured his deal because he wanted to keep playing next to Furcal, he might come away disappointed. Nov. 18 - 12:55 am et

This just convinces me we're about to announce a $60 million contract.

Just a question in case you might know (not being a smart ass). Do Yankee and Red Sox fans really care about "overpaying" as much as Cubs fans do? It just seems funny that an organization that has spent over 100 million dollar s last year has fans worrying about spending.

The Red Sox's payroll is $160m. The Yankees is $200m+. It's much less of an issue, but I'd bet they would do better by trying to develop some cheap talent to complement the higher paid players.

Yankee fans have faith that more money will be plucked from the money tree. Sox fans worry a lot about their status, but know deep down that they have a lot of money to spend.

Red Sox fans as a whole were unhappy with the Renteria signing of 4/42 (I believe that's what it was) even before Edgar proved he wasn't worth that much money. They were upset because they could have had Cabrera for less and had basically the same production. So yes, we're not crazy for being a big-market team's fans who want the organization to spend wisely.

I never implied craziness, I don't enjoy spending money for crap either (rusch/neifury) I was just curious about the viewpoints of other fanbases.

This isn't intended to sound rude (I'm just upset about the contracts given out so far), but I don't give a crap about NY/Boston fans getting riled up. If their respective teams spend large amounts of money on silly contracts, and they don't get upset about it then it's their own fault. Money spent foolishly hurts the organization whether your payroll is 25 million or 250 million. Obviously, the larger payroll team can absorb a bad contract much easier, but a fan who truly understands the economics of the game understands that overspending is detrimental to the team regardless of payroll.

It's not that we don't want them to spend every dime of their budget on the team, it's how they spend it that concerns people.
