Reported on the Score during the update that the Marlins aren't to interested in Patterson. They want Pie for Pierre. Also reported that Hendry wants Furcal and Pierre at the top of the order and is working on a deal to get Pierre without Pie.

I say give don't give them Pie. Give em Patterson, Pinto, and Mitre

If I'm Hendry and that offer is made, I collect my things, extend a middle finger and walk away without saying a word.

That is absolutely ridiculous.

Throw in Cabrera and it's a deal. :D

scary stuff. a horrible trade for the cubbies but even scarier because I can see something like this unfolding.
How so? Hendry has stated before he isn't trading Pie.

I think all indications are that Hendry will not make this deal including Pie.

Pierre isn't really worth more than Patterson and Mitre.

Bingo. We have a winner.

I'll even be generous and tell Florida they can have 2 pitchers-Mitre, and one of the Rule 5 eligibles. Anything more than that, and they can suck wind.

Marlins want Pie

So what? I want Delmon Young for Todd Walker. I also want a date with Bridget Fonda.

Doesn't mean I'm gonna get either.

You can't blame Florida for asking right - anyone would ask. But after you've already announced you're dumping salary, you can't expect to get more for Pierre than the Cubs got for Sammy Sosa in a salary dump.

I think its a possibility because Hendry seems to have getting "table setters" high on his list of priorities this off season. While I don't think a Pie for Pierre trade straight up would happen, a package deal with those players could happen though.

I don't really think it's a big deal. Of course the Marlins are going to ask for Pie. I'm sure Hendry wanted Cabrera thrown into the deal as well. You have to start high in your asking price. I'm not too worried about it.

There is no way Hendry trades Pie. The Marlins just ask for a lot because they want to see just how interested and high Hendry is willing to go. I think Hendry will get Pierre, but Pie will not be involved.

Good luck with that, Florida. I'm sure Hendry wanted Miguel Tejada for Sammy Sosa, too, but in a salary dump you can't expect to get back equal value, and Pie has a HIGHER trade value than Pierre.

I don't blame them for throwing his name out there but they're foolish if they think we're throwing Felix at them.

Believe it or not CPatterson's ceiling might even be higher than Pierre's.

Just for fun......

Florida receives Josh Barfield, Todd Walker, Shawn Burroughs and Corey Patterson

San Diego receives Luis Castillo and Jerome Williams

Cubs receive Mark Loretta and Juan Pierre

Maybe so, but CPatt's had years of showing he can't tap into his potential. I'm guessing most teams aren't interested in Patterson's ceiling as much as they are resigned to the idea he will never reach it.

I agree, we did see some of CPatt's potential in the beginning of the 03' season until his injury. His problem is more mental & lack of ability or desire to make adjustments when @ the plate. However, he is a GG caliber CF.
