The most interesting part of the article is this quote from Carroll:

"I was involved in the appeals process so I can't comment at all."

Why would a baseball writer be involved in the appeal of baseball steriod suspension?

Interesting.

How good is Will Carroll, usually?

Very little credibility. I don't think there has ever been a major rumor that he has reportered (whether it involved the Cubs or Pete Rose being reinstated) that has turned out to be true.

On the other hand, this was reported in USA Today's Sports Weekly, and Carrol wasn't propagating a rumor as opposed to commenting on one that has already been published. Having written a book on the subject, I can see why he would be involved in the process of an appeal.

Funny, on another thread I was joking that Podsednik got off the juice before the season started and then resumed his habit during the play-offs. All of a sudden, that doesn't quite sound so outrageous.

A seasoned veteran of angry mobs.

They've been preparing for Dusty for years, but this'll be good practice.

Will Carroll also isn't a beat reporter. He doesn't try to break rumors or news. He's always been more of an analyst than a reporter. I don't think it's fair to say he has very little credibility because he's never broken a major rumor that came true.

Of all of the starting AL OFers in the playoffs, who besides Damon and Sheff were in a contract year, and might have been tempted to give themselves a boost going into the offseason?

Well, let me put it this way then, when it comes to rumors of this sort, Will "Pete Rose will be reinstated" Carroll has little credibility.

BM: I have heard from two sources that the player is not on the White Sox.

Darn it. I knew it was too much to hope that we'd get something to cheer us up.
