Across the bar where Zarka, DeMaria and fellow Cubs fan Matt Kiehl drowned their sorrows in beers and complimentary champagne, White Sox fan and ESPN.com columnist Scoop Jackson was celebrating the win with his friends.

He came up to the area from his home on the South Side to see how this game was treated in Chicago's epicenter of baseball. He scuttled a trip to Houston to watch the game in his hometown. "This is personal to me," he said.

Jackson was disappointed that bars were half-empty throughout the area. The Cubby Bear was standing room only, but there was plenty of room to move around. This was an insult to Sox fans, he believed.

"Were you here last year?" he asked. "This place was packed. You couldn't get in."

There was no line this year at any bar in the area. Everyone was welcome. Few came.

I don't even understand what he's talking about there. It was packed last year, when? During the regular season? Umm there is a good reason for that. Does he expect Cubs fans (besides me) to come out to the bars on a Wednesday night to watch their hated crosstown rivals celebrate a White Sox world series in front of them? That is just Cub-hating right there.

Not to mention the fact that he shunned a trip to Houston just so he could savor the win in Wrigley's shadow. That's absolutely pathetic.

Don't underestimate the power of a large amount of ghetto trash. They've probably got many more guns than we do and they have the added benefit of having "street smarts".

I realize that as Cubs fans, we're all hurting and jealous of the Sox' recent success. But could we please limit the amount of socioeconomic rips on people from the South Side?

These references to "ghetto trash", cocaine and meth use/fabrication, and gun usage make me embarrassed right now to be a Cubs fan. This comes across as elitist, classist, and racist.

I have no problem with hating Sox fans because they're rooting for what we believe is the wrong team, but to do so simply because they generally don't live in the nicest area of Chicago is prejudicial and uncalled for.

^ OK that article enrages me to no end. To say that the Cubs fans are racist because they didn't want to see their crosstown rivals gloat in their face for the whole year, thats....well I won't comment any further on it because thats exactly what he wants us to do is respond with disgust

With my White Sox cap TI'd on my head, I challenge a Cubs diehard once Uribe grabbed the Series saver out of the stands, once Bubba Sparks (Bobby Jenks) grabbed his shortstop.

"If you are a true Cubs fan and hate the Sox," I say, "I want you to prove it."

Dude, beer in hand, blue-and-white Cubs shirt covering his chest, looks at me defiantly.

"If you real," I say, "since you know the mayor is a diehard Sox fan, when the elections come around, don't vote for him."

He puts his beer down.

"A real Cubs fan would do that," I say. "They'd take it that seriously."

Dude says nothing. Couldn't.

Like most non-Sox fans in this city, dude isn't real.

He also adds an obligatory racial reference.

Check out his article on espn.com, it's even better.

I'm thrilled that his feelings were hurt by what he saw.

Even in the throes of triumph those pricks are finding Cub-related crap to bitch about. What many saw as an unfair stereotype is becoming a clear depiction of reality.

He's right about the Daley stuff. One look at his smug face in the suites at the cell would send me running to another candidate.

I'm sad that I don't have a chance to vote against the slime.

This guy is just about hate and being a racist. I don't want KKK crap on this site and having this bigot on it bothers me too. Why do people feed this bigot the food he needs? Please, do not quote this person and give him the attention he desires for writing about hate.

Thank you.

I respectfully disagree, Cuse. The bastard is a columnist on a legitimate, major sports site.

Discussion of his ramblings gives us valuable insight into the heart of a Sox fan and the sham that is ESPN. For those reasons, it's worthy of consideration, IMHO.

Agreed. You cannnot simply dismiss his racist ramblings as such when he's a regular columnist for the most widely-read sports site in the US.

So by talking about him you encourage more of the same. I respect both your opinions but he has a job only because of the controversal hate that he continues to preach and the more we post his "articles" the more attention he receives. ESPN knows this and will run this tripe until we decide to ignore this type of rambling hate.

Scoop Jackson is a one-trick pony. He's a race-baiting piece of trash and should be treated as such. The Cub fan in question should have sent him to the hospital with a mouth full of missing teeth.

I think the "merits" of one Scoop Jackson should be discussed. I dislike that the other thread was locked.

I understand your POV, Cuse, but are we honestly having an effect on him writing one way or another?

I doubt it. ESPN doesn't come here and say, "heh, they're raggin Scoop again, contract extension!"

This is a tough time and articles like this are difficult to swallow at any length. His idiocy needs to be exposed.

Maybe Mark but doesn't everyone complain about Morriotti? What does the complaining do but bring attention to bad controversal writers. If Jackson is getting hits on his articles to see how outragous this one will be he wins and ESPN, being a cash first organization, will recognize this and keep putting this trash out there.

So my question is how do you expose this by constantly posting his articles? Debating it one way or another just keeps him in business.

i have to laugh any time that sox fans have to run back to cub fans for validation. we don't care. cub fans look at the sox as any other team that they don't root for, there's not much hate involved. are sox fans entertaining? of course, but a few jokes about incompetence and repeated absences aside, we don't really give them much thought.

the article by scoop is a desperate cry for recognition. their mindset is: "why don't you care about us? we care about you! look how much we care, we can't go two seconds in the 12 hours after we won the world series without thinking about you guys."

guess what, sox fans? many of us, including me, were hoping you pulled it off, if for no other reason, than to see our division rival houston astros fail. that's how much we really think about it. i know about as many sox fans as i know detroit tiger fans, and i feel roughly the same way about the two. i was actually rooting for the team who took game 1 to sweep so that the offseason could start sooner.

i think it's funny that at last the sox have won, the last barrier between the sox and attendance, between recognition has been breached, and sox fans come running first to the north side, to cub fans looking for validation, and it's ultimately not there. no, no one was watching, i played chaos theory after discovering that my beloved Lost was a re-run and then went to bed. there will be no more full stadiums next season, sox ratings will be the same as they always have been because there simply is not the support in chicago for the sox, there hasn't been for a long time and a world series will never change it. drink your champagne, sox fans, your team has earned it, just don't come knocking on my door expecting any sort of attention donation, I've given it all to the teams that I care about.

Alan Grant fits that description too, but since he doesn't often write about baseball I will leave it.

Scoop Jackson should be insulted by the empty bars. He should be insulted that not enough people in Chicago even care enough about his beloved White Trash to fill bars in Chicago. This fact proves what I already knew: even when you add bandwagon fans to the mix, there STILL aren't that many Sox fans in the city and there never will be.

It's hilarious how many Sox "fans" are happier with the fact that the Cubs didn't win the title than they are the fact that the Sox won the championship. When Sox fans are more preoccupied with the Cubs than they are a championship then they show their stupidity.

Had Reinsdorf built New Comiskey in Addison back in '91 instead of on the South Side, I think our perception of the team and its fans would be very different. Despite all the talk, there really aren't that many tried and true fans on the south side. Had the stadium been in the southwest suburbs (where many 2nd and 3rd generation sox fans now reside), their attendance would be much higher, and the public face of the fandom wouldn't be "white trash drunk/druggies, etc."

They'd still have an obnoxious manager, owner, catcher, shortstop, and starting pitcher though.

Uh-huh. And how do you "know" that a real Cubs fan wouldn't vote to re-elect the mayor just because he's a Sox fan. I'm sorry, but we DON'T take it that seriously. Just because you work for ESPN, doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about baseball.
