How does it feel to be filled with so much hate and anger?

Hateful and angry. The World Series is about to be forever tainted, and our fellow Cub fans are facing relentless persecution in their own city.

What other reaction could one feel in the face of this travesty?

I think I've stated pretty clearly what other reactions one could feel, so I won't bore everyone by repeating myself.

You've managed to bring your Love of Sox to plenty of other threads. Why should this one be treated differently?

I don't love the Sox. They don't really do much for me. But I don't despise them with every fiber of my being.

And why don't they deserve a championship? Because you don't like them? Or maybe they cheated?

Yup, we've been facing persecution for, ooooh, 90 years now? AND WE ARE THE LOVEABLE LOSERS remember..... How does this change that?

Do the sox winning change how you feel about the cubs? Increases your self loathing perhaps?

Doesn't change it for me. I will never change my allegiances from the cubs no matter what, not even by a %. What anyone else says, whomever else wins, whatever knuckleheaded people or moves the organizations undertakes, I'm a cubs fan.

This "you aren't a cubs fan if you do not hate the sox" is lame. Is your love of the team that tenuous? What about all the other teams that have been kicking our tushes for all of my life?

We've been losing forever ... but this is different. I love this team, and I don't want to see those who have been spitting in our collective face for generations derive joy from a championship they frankly don't deserve.

If the Sox win, most of those overjoyed with the conclusion will be people who despise the Cubs, and most of those despondent over the conclusion will be dyed-in-the-wool Cub fans. I don't know how anyone with Cub ties can miss that.

Absolutely correct. If the Sox win this damn thing I have at least two obnoxious White Sox fans I have to deal with. If the Stros win I don't have to deal with anyone making fun of me. The Sox are the only fan base in all of American sports that cares more about another team losing than their own team winning. I think if you injected a Sox fan with truth serum and asked him which he enjoyed more, this season or the 2003 Cubs collapse, they'd say the Sox...but not by much.

In addition it burns me up that the Sox are winning a lot of their games with help from the Baseball Gods. When was the last time:

- That an ump overturned his own call for no discernible reason?

- That Roger Clemens left a game (and it looks like, an entire series) with injury?

- That a ball fouled off a bat was called as a hit by pitch?

- That about ten players on one team had career years at once while that same team also had exactly one semi-major injury the whole year?

This team has no business being in the Series, but I'm going to have to hear them called the greatest team ever for the next six months because all of this crap happened this year...

Boo hoo! Those big bad bullies will make fun of me!

Funny, that seems to be alot of people's attitude on this board recently.

It's a good thing you have met and been harassed by so many Sox fans out in State College, PA.

Then why defend them to the death time after time?

And why don't they deserve a championship? Because you don't like them? Or maybe they cheated?

Like the 2003 Marlins, they're a championship team with a bottom-feeder fanbase. Fans that don't show up don't deserve a winning team.

I deal with Sox fans constantly, on a daily basis. For those who decide to trash talk, I refuse to sink to their level. For the many good fans that deserve a championship team just like many Cub fans, I hope they get it.

If the only reason people are rooting against the Sox is that a few immature fans might make fun of you for being a Cub fan, think for a second about how silly that sounds.

If you really dislike the team because of some fabricated "rivalry" based on the fact that the Cubs only interact with them 6 times a year, you're hating for the exact same reason many of us think it's ridiculous that the Sox fans hate the Cubs. Pot-kettle situation.

As for me, I dislike Guillen's attitude, but I think he's handled the pitching staff spectacularly this year, and that's why the Sox are where they are today. Not because of "smallball", not even because of "smartball", but because their pitching staff carried them here. Even though I can't stand Buehrle's attitude when he loses ("they were stealing signs from center field!").

I don't see why it's viewed as a crime to root for both teams to succeed. Even in New York, it's stupid. The only time I root against the Sox is when the Cubs play them. Which is almost never, then.

I don't know if anyone is putting into perspective how ugly it could get if the Sox win the World Series. It has never happened before in our lifetime. Therefore, we can't measure it.

But, we could soon be finding out. If they would simply rejoice in their own treasure's rather than using winning as an excuse to undress Cub fans, it might not be so bad.

If they supported their team through thick and thin, it might not be so bad. The White Sox were in 1st place all year long and the Cubs outdrew the White Sox by 10,000 fans a game, and we sucked.

I hate all other teams other than the cubs.

- I hate the teams that beat the cubs more

- I hate the teams that represent chicago less

In sports, someone wins, someone loses. That's the way it works. The Sox will have earned their "nyah nyah's". THEY WON THE WORLD SERIES (if they do....). I am mature enough to take that abuse and recognize it for what it is, a wonderful historical rivalry between 2 snake bit teams who cannot step out of one anothers shadows as they represent the same city. BRING IT ON, I can take it. I hope sometime in the future to bring it right back at ya.

And the reverse is true. Think about it from their perspective, the Sox have ALWAYS been the ugly step child in Chicago, the cubs the prodigal feel-good son. "Hey, we've got Wrigley and you have....?" Man, they probably hate our guts! Good!

Let's go SOX, beat up on the 'stros! HUMILIATE them.

Right, we should be cheering for all those Cubs games going on right now instead. Or at least not have every post on the board be about the White Sox.

There is no panel that judges what a true Cubs fan is. I just can't hate the Sox more then I hate the Cards. Maybe it's from living in Central IL for the past 4 years. Too many Cards fans here. I just don't let it get to me when they knock me or my team. I can handle it.

Mind you this is from a Chicago outsider. In 2003 I do not remember even hearing the Sox name and to think that Baker would be talking about the Sox at a World Series press conference would be beyond reason IMO. This ugly stepchild thing is annoying and listening to Guillen rant about the Cubs is borderline juvenile. God, enjoy the wonderful season you are having and get over the Cub penis envy. See Ozzie, you can get smallball to work if you use it right.

Again, when did it become mandatory for Cub fans to hate the Sox?

Who wrote that..., besides you?

See: first page, original poster, 4th post (i.e. J.R.'s sig), 13th post (that you replied to, actually, in agreement).

Seems to me that most of the White Sox-obsessed posters are the haters that start threads like these. Which I think is juvenile and petty.

One might ask then, why reply to it in support of the Sox? Well, just to make a point that there is another stance available, and it's not as silly as it sounds.

I really can't stand Guillen's attitude towards the Cubs, or any other team for that matter (see: choking motion in Cleveland). I also wonder whether his "smartball" costs the Sox more than it benefits them, considering how many HRs they truly did hit this year. Running themselves into outs doesn't score extra runs.

They do seem to be the master of the "productive out", though I have no factual information to support that position.

Well, I didn't see the word 'mandatory', but the statement is, for the most part true. Drop into a Sox pub or other such point of congregation for Sox ilk, and ask them how much they would be supporting the Cubs if the roles were reversed. The most likely answer is none. Right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

I grew up a Cardinal-hating kid in central Illinois, pretty much ambivalent toward the White Sox, but after living in Chicago for a number of years, I really can't stand their fans, and that has bled over to the team.

This is what it is like (in Chicagoland) for the most part. Outsiders don't care so much because it is really tough to find more than one White Sox fan outside the Chicago area, so they are ambivalent (as I once was) toward the White Sox.

The Sox are a more direct rival than the Cards could ever hope to be. As I've said before - if they win, we'll feel it in every aspect of the organization.

The Cubs and Sox battle every freaking day of the year for ticket sales, merchandise income, public perception and corporate sponsorships. Every dime spent on the Sox is likely one that would have been spent at Wrigley had this sham of a postseason never occured.

I don't think the Sox will take over the town or run us out of business if they win - but in any case, that trophy parade would be a costly one for the Chicago National League Ball Club, Inc. That doesn't even take into account the coming rain of abuse from the Sox' band of freaks.

Anyone that wants to gloat about any victory, be it Sox fan or Cubs fan, is really just looking for a reaction. Judging by some of the sour grapes posts in this thread, I imagine many people will be giving them the reaction they are looking for.

Its funny that, on one hand, people will say that there are hardly any real White Sox fans, but then, when talking about the possible White Sox World Series victory, describe Sox fans as this almost unfathomable and unstoppable dark force that will only ruin the lives of every Cubs fan in Chicago.

It's a good thing I've lived here for 6 months after living in Chicago for 13 years.

But you guys who live in Syracuse, California and Texas run into Sox fans by the truckloads every day.

Surprising, I thought my comments about the Sox being lucky would be the ones you guys would take issue with.

In any case, those "big bullies" are not bullies at all, but it is incessantly annoying that I and most other Cub fans are going to take epic amounts of crap about a World Series championship that was won largely due to extra outs being granted them by umpires and Graffaninos and by the other team choking with RISP time and time again.

Ozzie Guillen said he hated Wrigley Field recently. Check out SI.com's Scorecard Daily in the Truth and Rumors section for today (10/24). Even the Sox manager is obsessed with the Cubs in the MIDDLE OF THE WORLD SERIES!

maybe for the better. Maybe Jim Hendry will finally wake up and realize that if they can win a WS, we can too.

and about the whole "trash talking" thing..I'm a Packers fan and yeah I get dissed at school for being a Packer fan. I don't trash talk or anything, I have more respect to do that. Today for example, I got it pretty good. I don't really care. I've grown immune to it over the years. If the Sox win the WS, fine, I don't care about the trash talking. It doesn't bother me like it bothers some of you guys. Just take the high road...

I wore my Cubs hat to work today. While I was walking from my office next to the board of trade to union station, I had someone throw two plastic bottles at me, and one guy literally jump in my face and start yelling. Add that to my bar incident from two nights ago, and it paints an interesting picture. Like I said, if you don't live IN THE CITY during this, you don't understand. Living here a few years ago doesn't count, nor does simply living in the midwest. The White Sox weren't in the World Series a few years ago, and the majority of their fan base is located within the city and the surrounding south suburbs.

Let me get one thing straight. I don't hate the White Sox. Normally, I could care less if they won or lost. But when it's to the point where things are being thrown at me when I'm walking down the street, I'm going to root against them. It'd be different if it were just a few bad apples, but until you're in the city, you have no idea how many Cub haters are out wondering the streets looking for someone to mess with.
