But what I heard is that he's interested in the Cubs because he and Ryan Dempster are very close friends from their Marlins days.

That's cool, Ryan better have started his recruiting.

hat the Cubs could offer, for Rodriguez and Monroe, would be something along the lines of Barrett, Corey Patterson and a pitching prospect or two (maybe Rich Hill or Sergio Mitre).

Meh. I think that's overpaying.

If this report is true, it sounds like the Cubs are going to improve their defense at the expense of their already bad offense. The Cubs aren't going to go far with that strategy. And I really don't want an OF of Jacque Jones, Craig Monroe and some CF.

Oh, I would like a Bob Howry-signing.

I will be very surprised if they don't resign Walker.

If the story is true here is a future DL list for the Cubs

Nomar

Wood

Burnett

Rodriguez

If true the Cubs get older and worse. I can handle getting worse if it means getting younger (light at the end of the tunnel), but getting worse and older at the same time is too much for me to take.

Pudge is gunning for the all time record this year in fewest walks taken per plate appearance. He's the leader, but there's still a week to go for people to pitch around him somehow.

Two words:

No

Thanks.

That says they're not looking to resign Nomar OR Walker. *sighs and points to sig*

Nomar I could maybe, MAYBE see. But if Hendry doesn't pick up Walker's option, he should be (comment censored due to NSBB's rules against expressing a desire for someone to be dragged out into the street and shot)

But, IMO, the starting infield ought to be Aram, Nomar (or Furcal only if you can't resign Nomar, or failing both, Cedeno), Walker, and Lee on opening day 2006.

so last year it was the bad attitudes that kept the cubs down, and apparently, this year its the defense.

what year do the cubs get around to improving the OFFENSE?

Note to Jim Hendry and a bunch of other people....

IMPROVE THE OFFENSE FIRST BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT THE DEFENSE!! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN A G---D THING IF YOU HAVE 9 GOLD GLOVERS BUT DON'T SCORE ANY RUNS!!!! WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE WHO WILL DRAW WALKS AND GET ON BASE BEFORE GETTING RID OF PEOPLE WITH SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE DEFENSE WHO CAN HIT!!! GAAHHHH!!!

*hyperventilates*

*goes to his happy place*

The year Dusty has successfully ruined Prior and Zambrano.

I want Nomar at 2nd base even if there is 1% chance of this happening. I'm not giving up on him just yet, and even not at 100% he is still better than most every other option.

As far as I am concerned right now we only have 1 OF next season in Matt Murton, and this is not a bad thing. The infield is almost 100% set with exception of SS and we already have some options (Cedeno). The OF should be customized to fill the needs not aquired by the infield.

I like Howry and Monroe.

If that chatter is true, we can expect to be waiting yet another year for a playoff run. Too little focus on OBP.

Barrett may have defensive troubles, but he has plate discipline, something that is not stressed at all on this team. He'd be a beast if he had a manager who forced his players to take walks instead of being over aggressive.

Burnett wouldn't be a bad addition, if he could stay healthy.

Why do we stock this team with injury prone players? Is it any surprise when the season crumbles b/c we lack depth? ...play the odds Hendry, not dreams and prayers for a healthy season.

It would be pretty Cub-Like to get the guy 2 years after it would have made sense to do so...

It saddens me to repeatedly hear the Cubs interested in players like Monroe, Preston Wilson, Soriano, etc. They are all decent players. But all players like this do is keep the Cubs at the top of the leaderboard in SLG, and at the bottom in OBP.....and keeps the team striving for wildcard titles.

As for Pudge, I don't even know what to say to that. That's just not a good idea.

id rather play blanco everyday and let soto back him up than trade for pudge

gonna have to agree.

i do not want to see him in a cub uniform.

i don't want any of those players.

i'd take burnett, but the cubs have more pressing issues. like team chemistry and defense at 2b and catcher.

Not a Howry fan? I've heard that Cleveland wants to keep Howry as their closer next year, so he may never become available.

Then maybe Wickman can be had.

Guess who the worst pitcher in the Cleveland bullpen is. It's Wickman. I'd rather have Novoa/Welly/whoever than gambling on the 36 year old Wickman continuing his flukish success in the save department. Plus, someone is going to pay for those saves in Free Agency, it won't be worth it.

Why are we even talking about closers? Dempster has been flat out filthy in that role, he wants to stay here, and he shouldn't be too expensive to keep.

I think most if not all who were talking about Howry were talking about getting him in addition to keeping Dempster. I know I'm not extremely comfortable with any of our current setup/fireman options.
