Cubs second baseman Todd Walker was upset Monday over analysis by the St. Louis Cardinals' broadcasters, suggesting their TV announcers were trying to make Tony La Russa look like a "genius" at Dusty Baker's expense.

i like walker, and i want him back next year, but what is this guy's obsession with what the announcers are talking about? he knocked stone and chip last year, brenly last week, and the cardinal announcers today. someone get him xm radio so he can weigh in on pat and ron.

tony la russa did look like a genius today, and it was at dusty baker's expense, because dusty baker is an ignoramus.

I don't really remember him making comments about Stone and Chip.

are you kidding? it was a HUGE thing in the news last year.

he was mad that the announcers didn't give the players nicknames. so stone called him the louisiana lumberjack sarcastically.

I remember mainly Mercker and Alou, but Walker escapes my memory at the moment. So I guess I'm wrong in this case.

I'm wondering how he managed to avoid this in Boston. Maybe the fact they won ? I watch the NESN Pre-game and Post-game shows and those guys take the players to task on a regular basis. Jim Rice and Gary DiSarcina tend to border on just ripping the players and coaches.

I miss the Louisiana Lumberjack comment five times a game. Those were good times.

Alou and Merker ripped Stone and Carry and were let go. If Hendry is going to get rid of players for ripping broadcasters, Todd Walker can punch a 1-way ticket out of town. I really want Walker back, though. I like his offense.

Do players go into the clubhouse and watch the game on tv or something during the actual game? How would Walker even know what is being said?

I have to think this might be a major reason the Cubs aren't set on bringing Todd back.

After last year, they seem intent on placing the ever slusive "chemistry" stat #1 above production. Todd has had a habit of saying things to the media that make him seem a little more displeased with Chicago than he appears to his teammates. I've never got the feeling anyone thought he was trying ot make trouble, or hated his teammates, but I definitely get the feeling the Cubs would prefer if he'd shut his yap at times.

That's what always made me wonder. How do they know?

His quote in the paper makes it seem like they have a t.v. in the dugout or something, like he heard the announcers live, not on tape later in the afternoon. In which case I have no idea why they would want to watch the game on t.v while it is going on in front of their eyes.

Maybe they duck into the clubhouse to watch replays. In this case Walker might have gone in to see footage of himself gettting thrown out by a mile, and that's when he heard the Cardinals announcers, for some odd reason, praising the Cardinals.

It's why ALou and Merker were let go after last season, and the Farns was traded

This is stupid by Walker and if Hendry lets him go for this, he's also stupid. As Dennis Rodman said, "Chemistry is a class you take in high school or college" As for Todd Walker, there is a concept called mute the TV and turn on the radio. Grasp it, Todd

I prefered Bayou Basher myself.

I have to ask the same question - How is he seeing this while the game is going on? IMO, his focus should be one place - on the action on the field.

Also, I have no problem with himm commenting on something he sees or hears later (after the game - e.g. replays). He plays, he's a fan, and he has an opinon. If an announcer says something stupid, or something he thinks is off the mark or out of line to hundreds of thousands of people, why should he be chastised for trying to set the record straight?

In this case though, Cardinal announcers praise Cardinals? Big deal, and who cares.

Aren't players always in and out of the clubhouse during the game? They could be watching tape, changing uniforms, getting injuries worked on or taped, going to the bathroom, etc?

That's mostly it, but at least one of the "incidents" last season happened when a family member heard something on the broadcast and got back to the player after the game.

Personally, I think people are reading too much into what Todd Walker said. I do agree with Walker and that LaRussa is NO genius, but compare to Baker, I could see why the Cards were hyping TLR as a genius. I wish Walker would focus on the game, instead of the announcers, but this isn't a big deal.

It may also be that a reporter mentions that something said on a broadcast and asks for a response.
