I'm not sure id anyone has brought this up (didn't read back thru the thread too far), but MSNBC Sports has a story on about the Cubs in the lead for Soriano. They mention including Walker in a deal to Texas because the Rangers wanted him before he resigned with the Cubs. I believe they mentioned a three-way with the Mets as well.

Yeah, I just read that story here. I don't see why the Cubs would send Walker to Texas and then move Soriano to LF. Who becomes our 2B then? Neifi? :x

If they did move Walker (and I don't think they should) that would leave Soriano at 2B.

I'd really like to see JH get Soriano without having to give up Walker, if at all possible.

Hairston at 2b, Patterson back in Cf. The defense would be better.

Lineup ~ Hairston, Nomah, Lee, Burnitz, ARam, Soriano, Patterson & Barrett

I've come to the conclusion this club is going to lay down like dogs and there's no reason to deal for anybody.

If the best you can hope for at home is a split with the Diamondbacks it's time to start making tee times for October.

With an all star 3b out, the lineup's pretty weak. This shows ARam importance.

They scored zero runs with him in the line-up yesterday.

This also shows the continued stupidity of employing a slapdick like Jose Macias as his only back-up too.

Hey - here's an idea:

We should go after Adam Dunn! He might be available since the Reds are just about out of the pennant race. He's a great OBP guy, too.

I LOVE this board when they're losing.

no kidding, you'd think the sky is falling

Yeah. Who'd have thought you'd run into despondence on a Cub board when things aren't going well for them. Kooky stuff.

Yeah, who'd think people wouldn't have learned from being in basically the exact same position the last two years and having a chance to make the playoffs in the last week of the season.

Who'd have thought people would not think the season is over, and the team has no heart when we're 2.5 back in the Wild Card with 2 months to go.

Listen, I don't want this thread to get sidetracked, so this will be my last post on the subject. However, the fact is that different people react to thinks in different manners. Begrudging some posters for their pessimism and constantly pointing it out is as annoying as the pessimism itself.

I excuse any poster that is disappointed in the season to date. It has been disappointing to see this team squander away scoring opportunities and save/hold situations from the pen. I don't think its terrible that some people think this team shouldn't be in this position in the first place. That is their right. And, that is the beauty of a message board; getting emotional responses from all different sorts.

I get befuddled when people don't understand why posters get upset when the Cubs lose. Why not just sit back and wait for the Cubs to come back and enjoy seeing their emotions do a u-turn as they did today? In the end, we all want the Cubs to do well. Chastising posters for their reactions, or sarcasticly berating them because they either process things differently or have a different outlook, doesn't contribute anything, IMO.

Soriano would be an impact bat. As long as we didn't have to give up too much I'm for it. I would like to keep Hollandsworth if possible. I'm willing to deal Patterson and Hill, and other prospects. Murton should be kept, however.

I am in agreement....whatever happens, I would put Murton on a list of prospects that we must keep. He's shown too much talent and giftedness in his stint this year to be trade fodder, even if it is for someone like Manny R or Soriano...

hill should be kept over murton, in my opinion. i like murton too, but he's a corner OF w/ little power and average speed. hill, on the other hand is a left-handed SP, which is a lot tougher to come by than a mark grace-lite in LF. like i said, i like murton (and he should be playing over hollandsworth), but his .500ish average is a product of a lot of bloop hits, infield dribblers and pop flies lost in the sun.

i like soriano as well, but i don't know if i'd do patterson and hill for him. mainly because he's going to command a fortune in arbitration, and the cubs need all the $ they can get their hands on to keep zambrano and prior, who will break the bank when their times come. if you trade hill, lose one of those two guys to FA and never see wood in the rotation ever again, awesome young pitching is just a distant memory for the cubs.

Murton's a good hitter and all, but it's not like he's some 5 tool guy. I'd give him up for Manny in a second. I'm tired of waiting til next year.

Sounds a little like some other OF I know ------ Ichiro.

well Levine reported that Hendry is in discussions about both Soriano and Dunn.

I can't handle another 48 hours of rampant Dunn speculation...
